Intelligence driven operations continue to yield positive successes in Tshwane District as police arrests six suspects on three separate incidents.

On 03 September 2026 one suspect was arrested after the members operationalised information about a suspect who had hijacked a NP300 bakkie at Mamelodi. The vehicle was found at Mahube Valley and it was being stripped. The arrested suspect was also found in possession of a pellet gun.

In the second incident also on 03 September 2026, a warrant of arrest was executed on a Pretoria Central case of bussiness robbery and possession of unlicensed firearm. During the operation, the two suspects, man and woman were found in Mamelodi and two firearms, ammunition, breaking equipments and a suspected stolen motor vehicle were recovered in their premises.

On 04 September 2026 intelligence information led Bronkhorstspruit detectives and crime prevention members to Rethabiseng about two suspect wanted for a house robbery case. Three suspects were subsequently arrested at Rethabiseng informal settlement. Two of them were found in possession unlicensed firearms.

All arrested suspects are expected to appear before court on 07 September 2026. NP

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), in Mpumalanga has arrested two men, a 37-year-old undocumented foreign national and a 36-year-old South African citizen, in an intelligence-driven disruptive operation in Nelspruit on Friday, 4 September 2026.

The operation was conducted by the Hawks’ Nelspruit Serious Organised Crime Investigation (SOCI), supported by National Crime Intelligence, Fidelity Security Services Head Office, Fairview Mine and the Illicit Mining Operation Vikela Barberton.

The explosives recovered include 50 electric detonators, 80 blasting cartridges (Super Power 90 Zambia) and 32 connector cords, with an estimated street value of R130 000. Two cellular phones were also seized. NP

#sapsGP [BOOTS ON THE GROUND: EKURHULENI DISTRICT WEEKLY OPERATION SHANELA II CONTINUES TO PUT CRIME TO A STANDSTILL]

Weekly #OperationShanela II continues to yield positive results in Ekurhuleni District. This follows the arrest of more than 300 suspects in Ekurhuleni from Wednesday 02 September 2026 to Thursday 03 September 2026. The suspects were arrested among others for illegal dealing in liquor without a license, possession of drugs, dealing in drugs, and being illegal immigrants.

Detectives across Ekurhuleni Policing Precincts arrested a total of 218 suspects while tracing suspects on Wednesday 02 September 2026 for various offenses, including contact crime, contact-related crime, property crime, other serious crime, and gender-based violence.

On Thursday 03 September 2026, the District Commissioner, Major General Anna Sithole continuously led the main operation conducted in the Benoni area which included #IllegalMining. The operation ran simultaneously with another one at Primrose under the leadership of Ekurhuleni District Brigadiers: Albertina Vesi, Ntombizini Thethe and Nonhlanhla Shezi.

During the operations, 78 suspects were arrested for being illegal immigrants, 10 for possession of drugs, 7 for selling liquor without a license, 4 J534S issued for second-hand goods non-compliance, 1 for possession of stolen property, and 16 Traffic fines were issued to the value of R11 500,00. Members made confiscations such as Nyaope, Crystal meth, Mandrax tablets, illicit cigarette sticks, Phendukas, iron balls, water pumps, Oxygen cylinder, Spades, Fire hose, Generators, Welding machine, grinder, and steel pots.

Members of Ekurhuleni District Crime Intelligence who worked hours before the operation managed to arrest 2 suspects, 1 for dealing in dagga, and 1 for possession of drugs. Members also made a recovery of drugs and a CPF Reflector jacket.

In parallel to the operation Shanela II, Members of Social #CrimePrevention and other stakeholders conducted school safety searches at 2 secondary schools: Primrose High school and Goudrief Hoer skool in Primrose, but nothing dangerous nor illicit substances were confiscated in the school premises, talks at Intermediate school in Benoni .

Community Imbizos were conducted in both areas, at Msholozi Squatter Camp, Benoni, and Makause Informal Settlement Primrose to address crime and community concerns in relation to Policing

The District Commissioner, Major General Anna Sithole, thanked the #SAPS, other law enforcement agencies, and stakeholders for their continuous support in working hand in hand with the police in #FightingCrime.

The South African Police Service (#SAPS) in the Free State has welcomed the successful conclusion of a complex investigation that has resulted in 29-year-old Thato Shadrack Leeto being convicted on 15 counts and sentenced to a cumulative 145 years’ imprisonment, with an effective sentence of 30 years.

Leeto was also declared unfit to possess a firearm and ordered to be registered in the National Register for Sex Offenders.

The conviction is the result of the meticulous and sterling investigative work of Sergeant Mosiuwa Ntholeng of the Free State Provincial Serial and Electronic Crime Investigation (SECI) Unit, who took over the investigation in November 2024.

Between 2019 and 2022, a series of serious crimes, including rape, robbery and housebreaking, were reported in the Virginia and Meloding areas. At the time, the perpetrator was unknown.

Sergeant Ntholeng revisited the case dockets, conducted extensive interviews with victims and witnesses, and reconstructed crime scenes. A major breakthrough came when forensic evidence revealed DNA linkages between several cases, indicating that the crimes had been committed by the same individual.

In one particularly disturbing incident, a woman was asleep at home after her husband had left for night shift when the suspect allegedly forced his way into the house through a window and raped her. During the incident, the suspect referred to himself as “Thato” – a seemingly small detail that later became an important investigative lead.

Working closely with Sergeant Jack Salemane from the Bultfontein Family Violence, #ChildProtection and #SexualOffences (FCS) Unit, who had extensive knowledge of the Meloding area, Sergeant Ntholeng followed the available leads. The investigation eventually led them to a man known as “Drago”, who was residing in Excelsior. A buccal sample was obtained from the suspect and submitted for forensic analysis.

The subsequent forensic biology report linked Leeto to 13 case dockets registered in Virginia and Meloding. These cases involved seven rapes, as well as several counts of housebreaking, robbery and theft. He was also linked to a case in Makwane, Qwaqwa, where a young woman was robbed before being raped.

Sergeant Ntholeng went further by tracing victims and complainants across the province to ensure that outstanding investigations were properly followed through and brought to conclusion.

The strength of the evidence gathered by the investigation ultimately resulted in Leeto entering into a plea and sentence agreement with the State.

Leeto was sentenced on 30 August 2026 at the Virginia Regional Court. The State was represented by Control Prosecutor Charmaine Labuschagne, assisted by Prosecutor Miss Nthoto Chabane, while the matter was presided over by Regional Magistrate Mr Mgudlwa.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in the Free State, Lieutenant General Thabang Lesian, commends Sergeant Ntholeng, Selemane and all the role-players who contributed to bringing this serial offender to justice.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirms the dismissal of Major General Feroz Khan from the Service.

Major General Khan was deemed dismissed in terms of Regulation 9(7)(b) of the SAPS Discipline Regulations, following his failure to appear before the designated senior officer responsible for dealing with the expeditious disciplinary process.

SAPS reiterates its commitment to accountability, discipline and professional conduct within the organisation. No member, regardless of rank or position, is above the law or the applicable disciplinary framework.

As the matter has been the subject of legal proceedings, SAPS will continue to respect and abide by the decisions of the courts and provide further information where legally permissible. NP
