ISKP finally only managed to kill 13 US soldiers after 6 years of their group founding in 2015 when the US was leaving and was in an extreme situation, with hundreds of Afghan civilians also killed. The Taliban weren't protecting the US soldiers but the thousands of Afghans.

Some pro-Taliban accounts posted a photo of a graveyard in the U.S. showing graves of American soldiers killed in Afghanistan, claiming it as evidence that the Taliban defeated America and that Afghanistan is the graveyard of empires.
Interestingly, the photo depicts the tombstone of a soldier who was killed on August 26, 2021, in the ISKP attack on the Abbey Gate of Kabul Airport.
After 15 August 2021, the Taliban were guarding Kabul Airport to prevent ISKP attacks against foreign troops involved in evacuation operations.
