Trust me, I said the worst things about Ukraine and then I traveled here myself in the middle of their war to learn more about Ukraine with my own eyes and I am floored with how many Russian lies I fell for.

‘Kateryna Savenko’s Diary’ has been published. She lived in Mariupol with her beloved husband and daughter. On the first day of Russia’s full-scale invasion, she began to record the events she was experiencing. There are just 34 entries in total, after which the diary tragically ends.

It is a true miracle that Kateryna’s mother managed to smuggle two filled-up notebooks out of the occupied city. Her daughter had asked her to find this diary and tell the whole world what was happening in Mariupol. This almost biblical ‘I want the world to know’ sentiment is something I often encounter in people who have survived the hell created by the Russians.

The diary has been published to a very high standard. As Natalia Yemchenko said, it was important to them that everything was accurate, so they took our time and consulted with experts.

We have no emotional distance from the events, so reading these texts is painful. Take, for example, this note to her mother. The Russians shell the hospital and it goes up in flames. Kateryna’s mother finds her daughter by chance. She is lying under a chequered bag. And she dies in her mother’s arms two days later in the cellar.

Kateryna’s daughter and her sister were at the presentation; Kateryna often addresses her sister in the pages of the diary once text messages had stopped getting through. As Kateryna’s words were read aloud, they held each other’s hands. I thought that this is exactly how we’ve been holding on to one another all these years.

To be honest, it’s a very harrowing diary, but it needs to be read. It’s vital to produce professional translations into various languages. Because this is about the right to the truth. Kateryna’s voice must be heard by the world, just as she wanted.

Mom!

I'm wounded. To the city hospital! The doctors have all left. My leg is broken and my face is torn. Vitalik is dead.

Just experienced my first air raid in Ukraine.

Sirens blaring.

This is everyday for every Ukrainian.

I feel like such an asshole for minimizing the struggle of Ukrainians for the last 5 years. I often said I don’t care. Looking back, that wasn’t very nice of me to say.

There are people in Ukraine who have to run to a bomb shelter everyday and some of us had the audacity to say Russia wasn’t wrong because we believed the lie that Ukraine is a country full of Nazi sympathizers.

We have been so propagandized by Russia and we don’t even realize it.

Air sirens could very well be the future of America if we don’t start demanding our lawmakers crack down on communism and multipolarity.

We won’t have Trump forever and the axis of evil is moving fast.

Війна забрала у неї обох дітей: Оксана Найловець пережила загибель сина на фронті, а тепер і доньки від удару дрона в Краматорську.

�� Краматорську 8 липня 2026 року внаслідок атаки російського FPV-дрона по цивільному автомобілю загинула 28-річна Марина Найловець.

Вона перебувала в машині в одному з мікрорайонів міста, поряд не було жодних військових об'єктів - лише цивільна автівка та беззбройна жінка.

Марина жила в Краматорську, пр��цювала барберкою в салоні, постійно вдосконалювала майстерність.

Рідні запам'ятали її як люблячу доньку та сестру, людину, яка обожнювала подорожувати й завжди була готова підставити плече в скрутну хвилину.

Вона була донькою Оксани Найловець - жінки, яка раніше стала героїнею проєкту про матерів полеглих захисників "Вони народили героїв".

Пані Оксана вже пережила смерть сина Сергія: він загинув 9 вересня 2022 року під Бахмутом, коли намагався витягти тіло командира з-під вогню.

Тоді саме Марина допомагала матері триматися, підтримувала її й узял�� на себе всі клопоти з поховання брата.

Але 8 липня Марини не стало. Її мати залишилася без обох дітей - війна й російська агресія забрали всіх.

У соцмережах Оксана написала лише одне: її серце зупинилося разом із серцем доньки.

Немає слів, щоб заспокоїти такий біль.

Мене змушували мити туалети в Оленівці - через антисанітарію я втратила зір: історія азовки "Міри", яка вижила в полоні та бореться за друге дихання.

Ольга Гринчук, позивний "Міра", - колишня старша кухарка першого батальйону "Азову", родом із Маріуп��ля.

До війська пішла у 2020 році, хоча військова справа була їй близькою: колишній чоловік - прикордонник, багато друзів служили.

У званні старшого солдата вона готувала на кухні тричі на день по 400 порцій, їздила на навчання до Золочева, де опановувала польову кухню в умовах карантину та сирих дров на снігу.

На початку повномасштабного вторгнення жінок із її підрозділу вивезли на "Азовсталь".

Наприкінці березня 2022-го командири запропонували евакуацію, але Ольга залишилась з побратимами - частково через те, що в Маріуполі лишилися її мама й старший брат, який майже нічого не бачить.

На заводі вони жили в бункерах, шукали продукти серед руїн і годували бійців у пекельних умовах.

17 травня 2022 року "Міра" потрапила в полон. В Оленівській колонії через антисанітарію вона занесла інфекцію в праве око.

До того ж її змушували мити туалети - дірки в підлозі, куди зверху стікали нечистоти, прибирати доводилося по кілька разів на день без нормальних рукавичок.

У донецькій лікарні лікування майже не було - лише болючі уколи в око. Вона провела там до квітня 2023 року.

10 квітня 2023-го "Міру" обміняли. Лікарі в Києві діагностували рубець і наріст на рогівці, гній, збільшений кришталик - потрібна була складна операція.

Влітку 2023 року друзі-волонтери допомогли їй поїхати в Австрію, де зробили дві операції.

Проте після повернення почалося відторгнення рогівки і лікарі повідомили: врятувати її вже неможливо, потрібна повторна операція в Австрії.

Наприкінці 2024 року Ольга звільнилася з війська через другу групу інвалідності, щоб підготуватися до лікування.

Опера��ія була запланована на квітень, але коштує великих грошей, яких у неї немає.

Зараз вона бачить лівим оком лише на 25%, завдяки лінзі - на 100%, і мріє після одужання повернутися в "Азов" уже як операторка дронів.

In early March 2022, 9-year-old Alisa Perebyinis attempted to flee the war with her mother and older brother. At the time, their father was away, caring for his own mother following an illness. When the situation in Irpin, where the Perebyinis family lived, became critical and all utilities were cut off, the family decided to evacuate.

They were just a short distance from the evacuation point in Romanivka when Russians opened mortar fire on the civilians. Alisa was killed instantly, along with her mother, her brother, and their two dogs, which were in a carrier.

Marina was killed on July 8 when a Russian FPV drone struck a civilian car in Kramatorsk. She worked as a barber. Marina’s brother Serhii, a Ukrainian soldier, was killed in 2022. Her mother, Oksana, has now lost two children.

Under the rubble, rescuers found:
🕯️ 20-year-old Olha Antoniuk, a makeup artistry student.
🕯️ Her 19-year-old fiance, Bohdan Nykyforov.
🕯️ Olha's 48-year-old mother, Tetiana Hardadina.

They were planning their wedding. Bohdan had moved to Kyiv to be with Olha. Her father had already been killed defending Ukraine in 2024. Now russia has wiped out the rest of the family.

Moments before the strike, Olha texted her sister: "We're running to the shelter."

It was her last message.

They were supposed to get married.

Instead, they were buried together.

They had names, dreams, and people who loved them. russia took all of that away.
