Virginia State Corporation Commission – Bureau of Insurance:
Diagnosed with breast cancer in Jan 2024 at 36.
Before hormone replacement therapy—doctor-ordered, time-sensitive care—I preserved my fertility.
My health plan explicitly covers this benefit, yet @UHC has delayed/denied payment for over a year.
Under Va. Code § 38.2-510, failing to promptly investigate, delaying payment, or compelling insureds to pursue payment through unnecessary obstacles constitutes an Unfair Claim Settlement Practice.
When delay functions as denial—especially for cancer patients—it causes real harm.

I was diagnosed at 36 as a cancer patient and @UHC is still withholding $10,000+ I paid out of pocket to preserve my fertility before treatment.
This wasn’t elective.
This wasn’t cosmetic.
This was survival.
This IS outlined as covered in my policy.
This was told to me on a recorded line that”WE WILL PAY THIS WHOLE CLAIM”

@UHC My health plan explicitly allows fertility preservation when diagnosed with cancer prior to treatments such as chemo or radiation. HRT falls into “such as”
I followed the rules.
I paid upfront.
I submitted everything.
@UHC delayed, underpaid, and stalled.

@UHC requiring me to have an itemized bill. The Bill that the clinic makes when it is self pay is the name of the package with all the services included in that package listed out and itemized as requested. The price of the medical package is $5,500. It’s a flat fee as your reps incorrectly advised that it wouldn’t be covered. So I self paid. Your reps didn’t get me or the doctors office to the specialty department - THE ONE department that handles patients with cancer, fertility, and a handful of other issues. I’ve filed claims with them for all the medicines and services, too. .@UHC, your billing was wrong in my account, and I was told I had until TODAY to make an additional payment. But your person did not put that in the account or a note that they extended that to today, so I have to HOPE -- HOPE!!! - that the originating agency can get it reinstated with you.

Noting that if you deny it, I would literally be dead by Christmas.

@UHC My son’s Rx for GH therapy has been denied twice. First, they said a chart was missing. We submitted it. Then they claimed growth charts, bone age, labs & endo notes were missing—ALL of which were already sent. Is this about care, or checking boxes?
