0xBASIC

A programming language with BASIC-style syntax that compiles into CLVM bytecode for developing smart contracts on the Chia Blockchain. No affiliation with CNI.

Here's a mock up of a sample 0xBASIC program. The exact syntax isn't set in stone yet, but this is a great example of what my dream would look like.

Trying to create a new programming language (0xBASIC) that will offer the same functionality as ChiaLisp & compile into CLVM is going to require learning ChiaLisp! So, it begins. Did I have the entire documentation printed and bound so I could take with me on vacation… yes. Yes I did! 😂

Behind-the-scenes: this was a possible name that I was considering, domain available to purchase if interested 😂, but I decided against because there is a programming language called Mojo already.

I'm still working on creating as many of these documents as possible up front before starting to actually build the compiler for 0xBASIC. There is a lot to making a fully detailed, complete language specification document. Definitely gaining an appreciation for language designers, technical writers, and project management.

I really gotta stick with it now!! 😂

Spent some time this morning researching Imperative programming languages adapted to mimic or incorporate elements of functional programmming languages. Specifically BASIC and LISP.

That led me to a 3 part article series in 80 Microcomputing from March, April, and May of 1983. Internet Archive & the Wayback Machine to the rescue. Found copies of the old magazines and could download and print the articles. I'll be doing some reading this morning!

This article covers a LISP interpreter written in BASIC for the Tandy TRS-80 Model I Microcomputer by Robert D. Beer. Should be a fun read even if nothing comes from it.

I've been writing some of the Reference Manual / Language Specification (want all that first to use for AI vibe coding) and got an Intro written and posted on the site. What do you think? https://t.co/ZAOKz55OI7

[0xBASIC @0xBASIC_]

Lol... got rate-limited on following people. Will start up again later! 🤓

[0xBASIC @0xBASIC_]

Oh... it's a real project now! Gotta get busy!!

[0xBASIC @0xBASIC_]

I'm still working on building a Language Specification Document that will drive the implementation plan and direct some AI vibe coding, but here is a peek and the current plan for a Project Structure that may hint some more to come!

Made little sample program in 0xBASIC along with a Syntax Highlighting file in Notepad++. Is a work in process, but gives an idea of the current dream.

Early days but the work has begun. Stay tuned for more! https://t.co/ZAOKz55OI7
