I’ve been here for most cycles.

Every cycle I say the same thing:

We need to be cautious and intentional about attention and capital allocation.

The next time things go up, please, for the love of god, do not give into the things very obviously not building real tech and not trying to move the needle forward. And if possible, do not play into the hype that inevitably comes.

Until this changes, the cyclical nature of our ecosystem will continue, and onlookers will continue to think we are an unserious industry.

When $ and attention flow into things that quite literally promise nothing (this was EXPLICIT with this cycle’s ’memecoins’), the real builders suffer as a result.

Every dollar you put into something like a memecoin is a dollar 1) not going towards building the infrastructural tech we need, and 2) probably exiting the ecosystem.

Even if projects building real things fail, the experimentation and ideas and tech that result move the needle forward, inch by inch, towards the future that we all know we need.

A lot of OG builders I know have been pretty disillusioned, watching this happen over and over again. And many have given up, which is damaging to everyone and everything involved.

Please do not treat this like a global casino.

Please do not treat it like a game of musical chairs.

Please play your part in realizing a better future.

It’s up to every single person here to make this happen.

It’s time to grow up.
