People keep shitting on V and perhaps eventually he gets frustrated and provocatively and ironically lashes out with a preposterous statement -- which is consistent with his sense of humor and attention to the absurd.
Note that his mom and dad escaped communist Russia with him when he was a child. And his dad, Dima, fully trusts V's judgement.
Perhaps he needs better TwiXer emotional control or a better mental model of how TwiXer will react to his tweeXs. We all do.
But the guy has been carrying the world on his shoulders for years with virtually no complaints while legions of selfish assholes and bots attack him incessantly. Yet he shows up to work every single day to selflessly and with great integrity further the vision of and mission toward a much more decentralized world.
Another hypothesis is that V will soon write one or more blog posts defining capitalism and communism and other isms. I personally believe we are currently ushering in a new era that I think of as collective capitalism. It is indeed time to make capitalism great for the first time, as we have never really experienced capitalism on planet Earth. Decentralization can bring forth a much purer form of capitalism.
FWIW, Vitalik has already indicated that the EF has been working for some time on making changes. I expect they will be announced when ready. Expecting or demanding immediate changes is just not reasonable for these kind of actions.
For the past year or so, I've been running a civilization-style game for my fellow prisoners.
I’m now handing it off to one of my good friends so he can run it after I’m gone.
the trump memecoin represents a singularity in the evolution of digital value creation - the perfect fusion of personality cult, financial speculation, and irony. it crystallizes how pure narrative and collective belief now shape economic reality more than traditional fundamentals
yet within this peak expression of spectacular capitalism lie the seeds of its own transformation. by nakedly exposing the social construction of value, it forces a civilization-wide contemplation of what gives digital assets worth. the raw mechanics become visible: memetic resonance, network effects, narrative control
For me, the biggest missing piece in Ethereum leadership is people who embody a product and customer-centric mindset.
We all know the Ethereum researchers are world-class. This has served the network well in having bleeding edge R&D. But as blockchains are finally starting to work at-scale, and we have real users and application usage, it’s important to realize that Ethereum is building a product.
In fact, the extreme strength of the research team is the exact reason why we need strong voices on the product side. This would provide a balanced perspective on the roadmap and prioritize features that move the needle on end-user experience.
My wishlist for the EF “product team”:
Treat the L2s like the customers that they are. Ask them what their pain-points are in building L2 stacks. Prioritize the Ethereum roadmap accordingly. Native rollups is a great initiative because it solves the “security council” pain-point for L2s. This exercise would also reveal that scaling blobs far beyond our existing plans should be a top priority for upcoming hard-forks.
Reason holistically about the end-user experience across the entire Ethereum ecosystem: L2 product teams are strong, but are not incentivized to collaborate with each other—instead mostly focusing on their own roadmaps. This creates the fragmentation we experience today. The EF product team would be in a unique position to evaluate the end user-experience across all L2s and L1, and push forward EIPs/standardization across all ecosystems.
Actually use applications on the chain, and evaluate against competitors: The first step to solving issues is realizing that they exist. The current EF feels detached from actual users of the chain (understandable as the researcher profile is different from crypto users of today). 2 seconds of using Metamask vs Phantom would make it painfully obvious that Ethereum’s wallet layer is weak and holding us back. The existing wallet paradigm is not well-equipped for the rollup-centric roadmap. Once identified, solving these problems could involve building public goods that make life easier for developers at the wallet/UX layer.
Provide a positive vision for what we want built on Ethereum: “Memecoin trading bad” is not an inspiring vision for developers. Much better is to articulate a vision for what sorts of applications we want to see built in our ecosystem. If you’re building a platform, you should have examples of how people can build on it, and highlight standout partners + use-cases. The “Real World Ethereum” movement was inspiring and productive—it would be great to see more of that.
I'm very hopeful in seeing the EF wake-up and push for a next-generation of leadership. If we complement world-class researchers with world-class product folks, I believe Ethereum will win.
