Stan Wawrinka gave an emotional interview after ending his Grand Slam career at the U.S. Open

“For me, it’s been more than 20 years since the first time I came here to New York. I remember when I played qualies the first year. It was impressive for me to feel the New York vibes and the energy of this tournament. Over the years I received so much support because of you. I really enjoyed that. I found a way to play my best tennis here. It was always special. Tonight again, one of the reasons I kept playing until I was 41 was to live those moments like you gave us tonight. Amazing support. Thank you so much.” 🥹

“I’d like to thank the tournament for the wildcard. For me this opportunity to finish here was really meaningful from my side. So I’m super grateful to have received the wildcard. It was important for me to have the opportunity to finish the 4th Grand Slam, here in New York, ten years after winning.”
