There is amazing transatlantic cable heritage on this authentic property. USCS site visits, transfer of GMT from Greenwich to Harvard University, calibration of WW longitude, success in 1866 & permanent connection. @nuig research #CorneliaConnolly#tonyhall@jimlenaghan
I like this interview with Al Gillespie when he places emphasis on the permanent, instantaneous connection of 1866 and how #skeligmichael can be seen from the landing site on Valentia. The site is of course the little known Telegraph Field https://t.co/WNl3rQAf9C
The 1866 Milestone transatlantic cable heritage occurred at Telegraph Field, Foilhomurrum. First recognised by @IEEE in 2000 & is now the basis of the recent @UNESCO application by Canada & Ireland

Don’t understand how so many educated, well paid people & media keep getting dates and cable termini mixed up;
I’m Beginning to think it’s deliberate 🤔. @KerryCounty@MTU_ie@TLRHub@jerosullivanRK
The most recent errors apparently emanating from a Valentia Transatlantic Cable Foundation press release which VTCF & Radio Kerry have so far not shared with me.
Must acknowledge @Independent_ie / @kerryman_ie for their corrections & transparency as members of #presscouncil
Anglo-American Cable House built 1865 was the first cable station. The Telegraph Field where situate overlooking Foilhomurrum was the eastern terminus of the milestone 1866 event upon which the current @UNESCO bid is based…
@radiokerry refused to make corrections citing resources to research. Gave them the facts in black & white - no response.
Sir Robert Peel, Knight of Kerry & James Graves Superintendent of first cable station, addressing the excited audience at the launch of the milestone cable expedition.

Largest ship in-the world anchored at Foilhomurrum laying the milestone 1866 permanent transatlantic cable to the @1866Field at the Telegraph Field. Success was put in train 8 years earlier. @SSGreatBritain
#OTD in 1858 Brunel’s largest ship the SS Great Eastern was launched into the River Thames.
The ship had a difficult beginning which included a fatal explosion. Later in life, she was used to lay the first transatlantic cable 📞
