When you're in any theatre stage production, the final hammer of reality always sets in on the same day:
The day/night before Opening Night.
Otherwise known as Dress Rehearsal.
Which is finally.....here.
Tonight will be our last chance to make our mistakes and pitfalls. And that encompasses EVERYONE: the cast.....the technical crew....the props masters.....the wardrobe mistresses.....the make-up techs.....the script supervisor.....and everyone else associated with this production.
After tonights rehearsal, our Director turns the show over to his Stage Manager......and we sink or swim from there. At that point, HIS work is essentially done. A bittersweet moment for him, to be sure.
One of my co-stars was part of the early, EARLY years of SCTV and acted alongside John Candy, Catherine O'Hara, Dave Thomas, et al. He even showed me YouTube videos of him in the background of the sketches he was in, with them. Good god, the stories he had about working with those giants. The stories. Those amazing stories.
And even HE feels weight and excitement about what is about to come. Even to this day. That feeling never gets old, he told me. Never.
So, it's very fitting that on brink of Halloween, I find myself playing one of the most villainous, evil characters to ever to grace the pages of literature. Tonight, I will descend into the world of fog-shrouded 1880's London, where hansom cabs clip-clop across cobblestone streets.....where a policeman's shrill whistle pierces the night air......where cold bodies lay upon slabs in the local morgue, with only sound inside it being the haunting slow drip of a leaky tap.....where a helpless young woman hears a horrific, hideous whisper behind her:
"I want to split you in twoooooo........."
Yes.
It is finally.........here.
And I can't wait.
@runion_nayrb Difficult to articulate.
By that point, I've sunk so far into the character I'm playing that it ALL just kind of coalesces.
The "real" world fades, and the make-believe world I'm in.....becomes my new 'reality'.
A 'reality' separated by that impenetrable Fourth Wall.
@runion_nayrb That moment behind the curtain when the lights dim and the audience grows silent and I’m plunged into darkness…..and when the curtain finally opens.
I feel almost…..euphoric.
Like I’m in free-fall…..yet focussed at the same time.
@runion_nayrb I would say that as an ensemble, we hit the gas pedal just give the audience the show they deserve, and expect.
I know that sounds like a bit of a cop-out.....but now that opening night is finally here, I genuinely believe that.
THIS IS HUGE!
Thanks, Donny!
And now all the MAGAts and Maple-MAGAts can go take a long walk off a short pier, you pile of LOSERS!

@DonMarsh54143 No, they weren't you idiot.
Even if there was a .00001% of that being true....WE wouldn't have elected EITHER one of them up here.
Grow the fuck up.
