"[Baseball] is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall all alone. [1/2]
@ITAAirways My family & I were scheduled to be on the Thurs, Aug 14 flight (#806) from Rome to Tel Aviv. It was postponed, however, and moved to Mon, Aug 19. That flight has since been postponed to an as-yet-unknown date. We need to get back home. Please refund our tickets. Thank you.
@metsrewind@Mets Casey's contributions to the launch of the new NL team in NY shouldn't be reduced to his W/L record. Already a legendary baseball figure with nothing to prove, he provided the Mets with instant credibility and, thanks to his unique personality, served as the franchise's avatar.
P.S. The next batter, 2nd basemen Bobby Pfeil, hit a double, driving in Agee, anyway. 🤣
P.P.S. Durocher was right: this was Seaver's almost no-hitter, in which he retired the first 25 batters. He ended up facing only 28 at-bats in the game. 💪🏻⚾️
"Infield In" in the 1st Inning?! On 7/9/69, Tommie Agee hit a lead-off triple in the bottom of the 1st. Knowing that his team would be facing Tom Seaver, Cubs mgr Leo Durocher brings the infield in, fearing that giving up even one run might mean losing the game. Respect. [1/2]
"...And yet every heartbreak pinions me closer to the team. At gametime, I flick on the M.L.B. app and tune in. The worst days are not the days they blow a five-run lead; the worst days are the off days when I don’t get to watch them." @nytdavidbrooks https://t.co/7U8JVKQHTP
@metsrewind I find it sad to hear players from the '73 team denigrating Yogi. But they had a first-hand view of things, so they have to be taken seriously.
This is probably what it felt like in Jackson, Mississippi and Tidewater, Virginia, in the early 80's. Glad to see that Syracuse is making the most of this special window of time.
Opening Day is TOMORROW (Tuesday, April 4)... the Most Amazin' Show on Dirt is about to begin!
The top prospects in the @Mets organization are HERE in Syracuse... get your tickets now and catch them while you can! 🧡💙 #LGM#LGSM https://t.co/AcbMkeuLh1
From 1974 up until 2008, this view of walking up that ramp & seeing Shea Stadium in its full glory? Always gave me chills. I felt like I was walking into a cartoon. I never saw greener grass. I love Citi Field, but Shea Stadium will always be home. So many great memories #LGM
@Super70sSports The Mets' first serious pennant race in many years. The more experienced Cubs eventually took over the division in August, but the '84 Mets - who nearly won the division in '85 and won the WS in '86 - had shown that were on the ascent.
Chris Russo is saying on MLB Network right now that “a lot of Mets fans” are upset that the team is bringing in so many free agents instead of developing players.
Lmao, find me those fans. Please. I’ll wait.
Not sure whose burner account this is, but @MikeSilvaMedia perfectly described this thinking in the "Talkin' Mets" podcast today. The foundational principles of "The Amazin's" & "Ya Gotta Believe" are secure. But @StevenACohen2 is here to win & this is the cost of winning today.
