Tens of thousands of medicine registration applications sit in backlogs across Africa. The African Medicines Agency @AU_AMA_ exists to clear them. But it's still building the machinery, and AI-accelerated drug discovery is about to make regulatory capacity the binding bottleneck.

What’s happening?

Researchers in Seattle are testing PfSPZ-LARC2 in people for the first time. The experimental vaccine uses genetically weakened malaria parasites. The study will assess safety, immune response, and protection after a carefully monitored malaria exposure.

Why we love it:

Healthy volunteers make it possible to test a promising idea early and carefully. By taking part in a closely monitored challenge study, they help researchers learn whether the vaccine is safe, prompts an immune response, and deserves further development.

What's happening: A phase 2 challenge study tested an oral tablet norovirus vaccine in healthy adult volunteers who were then deliberately exposed to the virus under medical supervision.

Why we love it: Volunteers made it possible to measure protection directly, and to identify the immune markers that predict it.

The impact: Vaccinated participants were significantly less likely to be infected and shed far less virus, a real step forward!
