Every year, when students fail WASSCE, we are quick to blame them. We accuse them of spending too much time on TikTok, social media and other distractions. We question their commitment to learning, but how often do we question the system responsible for educating them?
Teachers are expected to do more than stand in front of a classroom. Their work follows them home. Marking scripts, preparing lesson notes, setting exercises, assessing students and planning lessons all require time, energy and resources.
Yet these are people who also have families to feed, bills to pay, transportation to afford and personal struggles to deal with. How do we expect teachers to give their best when the very system that depends on them is failing to provide the conditions that allow them to thrive?
You cannot consistently neglect the welfare of teachers and expect excellence from the students they are responsible for educating.
When students fail, we blame the students. When teachers struggle, we question their commitment. But somehow, the system that places both in these circumstances escapes accountability.
The truth is, students cannot rise above every limitation of their environment, and teachers cannot indefinitely compensate for a failing education system through personal sacrifice.
If we want better WASSCE results, we must look beyond the examination hall. We must examine teachers' welfare, motivation, classroom conditions, teaching resources and the support students receive at home and in school.
The system is failing both the teacher and the student. And until we are willing to confront that reality, we will keep blaming the victims of a problem we refuse to fix.

MOURINHO AFTER BENFICA 0-1 REAL MADRID, FEB 17, 2026:
“The referee had a note saying Tchouameni, Carreras and Huijsen couldn’t get a yellow because they’d miss the second leg. I coached Real Madrid, so I know how things work over there.” 😭
🚨 Harry Kane: “I could score 100 goals this season but if I don’t win the Champions League or the World Cup, you’re probably not going to win the Ballon d’Or”.
“It’s the same with Haaland, with any player. You have to be winning those major trophies”, told Mirror.
