🚨 🔵 Chelsea fans are obsessed with Maxence Lacroix. Ironically, the player who could unlock Xabi Alonso's system isn't even the one they're talking about.

It's Marco Palestra.

Before anyone misunderstands the point, this isn't about downplaying what Lacroix brings. A dominant, progressive centre-back is essential in Alonso's system, and Lacroix could become a cornerstone of Chelsea's back line.

But systems aren't defined by one player alone. They're brought to life by the profiles around them.

One of the biggest reasons Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen became so devastating wasn't just because they had defenders who could build from the back it was because their wing-backs constantly stretched the pitch, attacked space, carried the ball into dangerous areas and turned possession into genuine attacking threat.

That's where Marco Palestra comes in.

Watching his game, you immediately notice a player who doesn't wait for the ball to dictate his movement. He attacks spaces before they're available, drives forward with purpose, embraces 1v1 situations and has the intensity to recover possession the moment it's lost.

Those are exactly the qualities Alonso asks of his wide players. They're expected to be more than full-backs they're often the team's main outlet for progression, width and chance creation.

If Palestra develops as expected, Chelsea may have quietly signed one of the most important tactical pieces for Alonso's project.

While everyone is focused on the foundation, they may be overlooking the player who could make the entire structure function at its highest level.
