Merchant developers fill 'void' in US interregional grid build-out
Two recent reports highlighted how merchant developers are leading the way in US interregional electric transmission construction.

20 yrs ago I wrote a feature suggesting that the now #NobelPrize-winning #QuantumDots could be guided by engineered viruses to form "high-density quantum-dot flash memories."
Which may be just around the bend. Glad @IEEESpectrum remembered. @kochinstitute https://t.co/IQE1To3XUg
Thanks @BostonGlobe for running my short & sour critique of your editorial. My 2 cents: Climate impact can't be tucked at the end when emissions are rising and solutions aren't. And don't ignore the ongoing scourge of lead pollution from private planes. https://t.co/V7hpbTURSZ
When we think about cables (#HVDC), we need to think about electricity markets. Cables enable markets for the greater benefit of resource optimization among #ParisAgreement signatories @ftenergy so thank you for bringing this up 👇
Due to the voluntary conservation efforts by Texas residents & businesses, along with additional reliability tools, ERCOT was able to get through a tight peak time yesterday with no grid reliability issues. Stay updated by signing up for #TXANS emails: https://t.co/Q9ve8BZmyh.
Me looking a little crumpled while sharing #powergrid understanding and story ideas with fellow journalists at the @sejorg annual conference last week.
Thanks for the HT @JLMizrahi, and a HT pass-on to @ElectrifyBloom for that slide.
@ntsafos@1uEnergy The framework further leads countries to enable electricity markets (if they don't have any) or enhance them, whether in Central Asia, Africa, or North America. We need to talk about electricity markets when we talk about grids. 👇 /2 @IEA@fbirol

It takes effort to disseminate ideas to the relevant parties in the same ecosystem, and one usually needs an organization to accomplish this to have a wider audience. I thank the APEx and their board members for giving me that audience in their recent newsletter. @iea@1UEnergy
What differentiates this new study is its top down view of electricity markets, wholesale trading, etc. all enabled by transmission investments across regions for the US. Markets are our assets as well. #energytwitter

Secondly, from the report's perspective non-iso coverage of the US is leading to and (also needs to) enabling electricity markets with neighboring states or provinces wherever it is applicable. /2

The math here is pretty simple: MISO invests ~$15 billion in new transmission and receives >$37 billion in benefits. Even if we zero out the carbon value, it still pays for itself multiple times over. Why wouldn't everyone be for this...?
Grain Belt Express owner and developer @InvenergyLLC announced an expansion of this major #transmission#infrastructure project in the Midwest. 5 gigawatts = four nuclear power plants worth of new #renewable energy capacity. Read more from @stltoday: https://t.co/0iaCVLEjQt
Today, FERC issued a proposed rulemaking to address issues with transmission interconnection. ACEG welcomes FERC's attention to one of the most pressing challenges facing the grid. View Executive Director @RobGramlichDC's full statement here: https://t.co/JIadM2rn9l #TxNOPR2
@IEA Regions will be effective mitigating risks ranging from price surge to climate change related issues. I am very happy to see that @IEA values this. Regions are enabled by electricity interconnectors. @1uEnergy
ACEG submitted comments in response to @ENERGY’s RFI regarding the establishment of a Transmission Facilitation Program to assist with the construction of new, replacement, and upgraded high-capacity transmission lines. Access our full comments here: https://t.co/LVgPf5SY1t
