My pig brethren, a quick list of my favorite spots in Lawrence

KU fans, please add to the list.

- The Wagon Wheel, socially known as “The Wheel”. Cash only, typical college bar with great food. The Wang Burger is a must, I’m told the pizza is good too

- 23rd street brewery. Food items named after coaches and athletes. Food is great. More family friendly than the wheel, in the parking lot of HyVee for an efficient location

- Johnny’s Tavern. A chain, but good. Buffalo chicken pizza is solid. People tell me the wings are great too

- Also, there’s a Whataburger in Lawrence, if that’s your thing. It’s kind of like seeing a polar bear in the desert but it’s reliable

- If you’re up for a 30 minute detour, the KC BBQ scene is worth it. You can research your own spots, though controversially Joes is my spot

Here’s 4 quick takes on KU’s 6th “Rock Chalk Walk-off” of the year:

Hauge: “We’ve said it time and time again that we’re the ‘Never say die ‘Hawks’ and we’re gonna keep battling and get ours eventually.”

Ballinger: “The my favorite homerun of the year and my biggest to get to help my team tie it up in a postseason game. Fitz told me to get a pitch to hit and do damage and he hung one so that’s what I did.”

Koszewski: “I told myself to try to relax and just breathe. It’s the same game we’ve been playing since we were four years old so I always try to remind myself of that.”

Breckheimer: “After those 7 straight balls, Coach Scott came out and I was sweating so profusely I used his sweatshirt sleeves to dry off. We laughed and that honestly, helped me settle in.”
