Life as a teacher...
"Teachers, make sure you do self-care, which includes staying hydrated!"
"Also, teachers, you get 2 bathroom breaks over the next 8 hours, at 11:25 and 12:45. Plan accordingly."
I'm pretty proud of myself right now, not gonna lie. Had one parent at orientation, who spoke no English. We had audio translations in Spanish for several slides, but not all. So I did my presentation mostly in Spanish. Mom said I did well and she understood everything! 😎
Orientation day 1! Let's do this!
Lesson already reinforced: there is nothing - NOTHING - that gets nervous 7-year-olds to start chatting confortably with their new teacher better than telling them you play #fortnite and #minecraft. #gamerteacher#2ndgradeteacher#2ndgrade
Orientation starts tomorrow, which means it's time for the last item on my teacher checklist - hair color! I've bleached to a pretty light blond before, but this is WHITE. #BackToSchool#teacherhair
Thank goodness for those warriors who are manning the front offices of schools across the U.S....even if they do make us feel a bit inadequate when they can magically make contact with busy parents in minutes!
Teacher's friend: Wanna get together this weekend?
Teacher: Sorry, got plans.
Friend: Something exciting?
Teacher: Well, there'll be lots of money involved.
Friend: Oooooh...a hot date??
Teacher: As long as my laminator doesn't break.

@FIRSTChesapeake@FIRSTweets I have lost track of the number of times my husband (Navy civilian engineer) has pointed out to our robotics team freshman that what he is experiencing is exactly what he'll be doing as an engineer after college.
@KevinRickard4 @FitzhughSabrina@Schoology@HRichardson_VB@BeachSupe We used Zoom for our meeting Monday and it worked well. Remind people to use headphones if possible or turn their volume down to the lowest possible setting. The echoes were killing us. 🙂
@KevinRickard4 I really wasn't surprised. We were originally out until Apr 14 (end of spring break). Now we'll be doing distance learning Apr 20-May 29 (planned last day of school).
It will now be up to school boards to support this. Hopefully all see the benefits of having teachers involved in making decisions as we advocate for ourselves and our students.
