A little emotional tonight,
The past 5 days have been nothing short of heartbreaking and strenuous.
This city, this community and all of its members have worked tirelessly from sun up to sun down.
There are traffic lights still blinking and tons of homes with blue tarps. The debris lining the roadway is unimaginable.
Neighborhoods are coming to light and the sound of generators on my street are still buzzing - because we are ground zero. The experience is close to that of April 27th and lord knows I didnโt want to relive that.
Linemen were injured today, which made it even harder. They want to go home too, they want their families. There have been accidents, so many due to negligence and lack of patience.
However I look at those who showed up - we have so many people here, from all over the US who came to take care of a small portion of the country, of the state. They all joined up just to make sure we have hot meals, laundry and showers. Making sure our local first responders have time to rest, our linemen have time to take breaks. The locals are providing everything they can to help others, before ourselves.
The Florida panhandle is home and the one word I can find to describe it - resilient.
so Iโll eat my leftovers and enjoy my lukewarm shower, Iโll listen to the generators buzz and open the windows a bit more.
Iโll take what Iโve learned from the past 5 days and give back to those who need it more than me..Iโll practice being grateful for what I do have and remember itโll all be okay.
