My Great Uncle served as a tail gunner in a Lancaster bomber. They were shot down over France but he was able to make it back to England with help from the French Resistance. What he saw on the way back scarred him forever. He only spoke of what he witnessed a few times before passing. These men were just boys for the most part being subjugated to the worst man could construct at the time.
