It’s a sad day.
Tonight I drove alone to the Alcoa Kwinana Refinery.
I reflected on todays announcement and how it’s going to impact our members, their families and the local community.
Deep disappointment and sadness.

Some exciting personal news to announce
I’m looking forward to starting a new role as Group Executive, Strategy & Growth, with the great team at EML
I’ll be joining 4,000+ colleagues from around the country & the globe, to support them in helping people get their lives back
Huge day filled with mixed emotions.
The last 15 years at the @AWUnion have been incredible.
I’m so proud of how strong the AWU stands today and I have the deepest respect for our members.
Looking forward to whatever comes next!
After nearly 7 years at the helm, and 15 years in our Union, Daniel Walton has announced he is stepping down as AWU National Secretary.
“It's been a singular honour to lead the AWU and I’m incredibly proud of what our union has achieved by working together since 2016,” he says.
Fast forward a few years and everyone will be talking about this issue - but if we don’t intervene now, we can’t fix it down the track.

What a fantastic outcome for Silicosis victims and those workers exposed to Silica dust at work - in particular @AWUnion members working in Tunnels, Mines and Quarries
I hope that this decision helps save thousands of lives from this deadly disease https://t.co/zWZonInQF0
We are trying to call out the shocking behaviour from some employers, and raise awareness about how dangerous this dust is.
This shocking lung disease doesn’t turn up later in life like asbestos. It’s impacting workers in their 20s, 30s and 40s.
If you or someone you know works in tunneling, on mines or quarries, or perhaps they regularly cut concrete - they are potentially exposed to Silica
Silica is a deadly dust which if contracted, causes Silicosis - a deadly lung disease
There is no cure

It is beyond disappointing to hear that the Greens is refusing to back the Safeguard Mechanism without ludicrous demands on new energy projects.

.@DanWaltonAWU has attacked the Greens over threats they will block Labor’s centrepiece climate policy, saying the party had done “more to worsen climate change than any other entity in the country”. By @jessmalcolm1 Politics Now blog @australian https://t.co/jpE2EditXV
Gas company @WoodsideEnergy spent 6 months trying to stop its workers from bargaining collectively - to no avail. A majority of its workers stood up and asked for better.
Massive win for the @AWUnion and @MaritimeUnionAU, and for all the workers who stood up for their rights.
