On May 29, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the US had seized roughly $1B in crypto linked to Iran. That builds on the earlier freeze of $344M in USDT on Tron back in April.

The market barely moved. But the precedent is massive. This is the first time the US has demonstrated it can identify, freeze, and outright seize crypto wallets at this scale.

Two key takeaways:

1. The "crypto is untouchable" narrative just took a big hit. If Treasury can do this to Iran, they can do it to any sanctioned entity.

2. Centralized stablecoins like USDT are the clear weak point. They're issued by US-linked companies that comply with OFAC. The $344M Tron freeze proves it.

What does this mean for holders?
If you're sitting in USDT on Tron or other centralized chains, you're trusting Tether (and the US government) not to freeze your funds.
If that risk bothers you, you pay the premium for Bitcoin on mainnet or privacy-focused assets — much harder to seize, but less convenient for daily use.

Bottom line: Markets will start pricing in "seizure risk" more seriously. Watch for flows moving out of USDT on centralized chains into BTC, privacy coins, or self-custodied assets. That's the real signal.

Investors are cashing-in massive profits from the oil trade:

The United States Oil ETF, $USO, has posted -$900 million in outflows so far in April, on track for its largest monthly withdrawal since the 2009 record of -$1.2 billion.

Still, the ETF is up +2% month-to-date, after rising as much as +100% from January to early April.

This comes after +$700 million in inflows in March, the highest monthly intake since the 2020 pandemic.

By comparison, the largest monthly inflow on record was +$3.2 billion in April 2020, followed by +$2.1 billion in March 2020.

Overall, $USO has surged +91% year-to-date, on track for one of its best annual performances this century, followed by +65% in 2021 and +47% in 2007.
