#Eritrea : Adulis, on Eritrea’s Red Sea coast near Zula Bay (~56 km south of Massawa), was the Horn of Africa’s main ancient port. Its strategic location at the junction of maritime and overland routes, plus nearby rivers, fertile land, and resources like obsidian and salt, made it a key trading hub. Activity dates back at least to the Pharaonic Old Kingdom (c. 2650–2150 BC) as part of the Land of Punt, supplying exotic goods to Egypt. The town was destroyed by flooding and seismic events in the 7th–8th century AD and abandoned, vanishing under sand and silt for centuries.
Excavations resumed in 2011 under Eritrea’s Commission of Culture and Sports with Italian partners (CeRDO and several universities). Work has uncovered early Christian basilicas, a cathedral with marble and alabaster, a high-status residence, workshops, burials, and imported goods across a ~40-hectare site of distinctive basalt stone architecture. The 2024 campaign revealed large intact vases intentionally buried from the 1st–2nd century AD—pushing the town’s known development earlier than the previously assumed 3rd–7th centuries. Nearby ceramic fragments may date even earlier (2nd–1st millennium BC), linking back to Punt-era trade. Next steps will investigate the vases’ context

One year ago, the RSF committed horrific atrocities in El Fasher. Civilians were killed, beaten, raped and tortured during the RSF’s assault on the city. One year later, civilians across Sudan continue to suffer. Drone strikes kill and injure scores of civilians across the country almost daily. Civilians are forced to leave their homes and their livelihoods. And severe food insecurity is spreading. The United States mourns the loss of life due to the conflict in Sudan and is working every day to advance efforts towards lasting peace. Foreign military support to the belligerents must cease, aid workers must have unhindered humanitarian access, and civilians must be protected and able to return to their homes. Perpetrators of atrocities must be held to account. The Sudanese people have suffered enough; they deserve to live their lives without constant fear of violence.
Ethiopia’s Pan-Africanist symbolic credentials cannot shield its successive regimes from scrutiny. How can a state invoke African unity while undermining the sovereignty and self-determination of other #African peoples?
Haile Selassie helped found the #OAU in 1963. Yet in 1962, his government dismantled #Eritrea’s federal autonomy and annexed it. #Ethiopia’s record toward #Somalia raises further questions about territorial claims, intervention and regional hegemony.
The OAU Charter enshrined sovereign equality, territorial integrity, non-interference and peaceful dispute settlement. These are not principles to invoke when convenient and discard when they constrain Ethiopia’s ambitions.
#PanAfricanism is not a licence for African states to dominate other African peoples. It demands consistency: liberation for all, sovereignty for all, self-determination for all. Continental prestige means nothing when the principles proclaimed in Addis Ababa are denied to those whose freedom challenges state interests.

More soon.
Unbelievable. For 3 years, all the senior officials in Ethiopia have been speaking provocatively about the Red Sea, violating the territorial integrity of their neighboring countries, and even cooperating with terrorist organizations when necessary. Yet they receive no harsh warning from either the US or the EU.
Foreign aid & external debt cycles will never build a sovereign Africa.
Eritrea’s self-reliance model proves that when African nations prioritize:
🌾 Food security & local dams
🛠️ Technical vocational skills
💎 Value-addition on domestic resources
Real, independent growth follows
IMF has released the list of the top 15 world poorest countries and 14 of those are African nations. But are African countries really poor?
Burundi that tops the list is the biggest producer of rare earth. It also has gold and one of the best nations in Agriculture in East and Central Africa.
South Sudan, Somalia, Niger are some of the biggest oil producing countries in the continent with over 2 billion oil reserves each.
DRC and Ethiopia shouldn't even be appearing in anything closer to poverty. DRC generated over $2.8 billion in gold exports alone in 2025. Ethiopia's stats speak for themselves.
The big question should be, is Africa really poor or it has poor governance and service delivery by those at the top?

Geography doesn’t change by population a landlocked nation remains landlocked. For regional peace, sea access must be pursued through peaceful trade with all neighboring countries.
The Red Sea will ONLY be governed by Red Sea border countries. 🌊🇪🇷
Thank you, Ambassador @FaqiAlis for the words of wisdom & statesmanship which the Ethiopian PM conspicuously lacking.
@AbiyAhmedAli ’s pursuit of “sovereign” sea access through threats of #aggression is unjustifiable and contrary to international law. #Ethiopia has never been denied commercial #maritime access through peaceful agreements. Threatening to invade #sovereign neighboring countries serves neither the Ethiopian people nor regional peace, but the #UAE and its enablers’ #expansionist agendas across the #HornOfAfrica.

🔴 UNPRINCIPLED ALLIANCE, CHRONIC INSTABILITY
* 🎭 Pure Opportunism: Once branded "unfit and out of his depth," Abiy Ahmed now makes Getachew Reda his East Africa advisor.
* 🚨 Regional Chaos: Former bitter foes unite while destabilizing neighbors—proving Abiy's rule thrives on reckless survival, not genuine peace.
Proud of this capacity building in Eritrea’s police! Forensic chemistry training for crime investigators by Dr. Eden Tareke, who also donated books & equipment. Thank you Dr. Eden for strengthening 🇪🇷’n justice system! 🇪🇷
The Eritrean Police has provided training in forensic chemistry to crime investigation personnel.
Sub-Lt. Simon Gebreyohannes, head of the Crime Investigation Unit, said that the training, provided by Dr. Eden Tareke, a chemistry and food safety expert, will strengthen the capacity of laboratory technicians and contribute significantly to the effective execution of the unit’s daily activities.
Sub-Lt. Simon said that Dr. Eden had also donated books on the subject, as well as equipment.
Dr. Eden, for her part, called on the trainees to build on the knowledge gained during the training, further develop their capacity through reading, and contribute to serving the public.
The trainees expressed appreciation for the training opportunity and presented a certificate of appreciation to Dr. Eden Tareke.

"Eritrea recognizes the vital importance of constructive, principled international engagement. Through frameworks like the UN SDCF our nation continues to collaborate with UN agencies and international partners in areas that align with our national development goals".
Why is the @_AfricanUnion silent on drone attacks killing civilians in #Ethiopia? The #AU has condemned similar attacks in #Sudan and the #DRC, so where is the same urgency for Ethiopian lives? Shame on this selective silence. The AU must be held accountable.
From branding @AbiyAhmedAli unfit, inexperienced & out of his depth, @reda_getachew is now his East African Affairs Advisor. Advocating “regional stability” while 🇪🇹 destabilizes 🇸🇩 & invades 🇪🇷n sovereignty shows how fast former foes become key allies.
Advisor to the Prime Minister on East African Affairs, Getachew Reda emphasized Ethiopia’s pivotal geopolitical position, stressing that whatever political and security developments in the country carry serious implications for the wider region.

As a landlocked nation unable to fully control its territory, Ethiopia has no viable navy. Red Sea states are responsible for maritime security. Prioritize internal stability and trade access deals with all neighbors for regional security and growth.
Its interesting that Ethiopia's intelligence chief acknowledges that the militarization of the Red Sea is driving instability in the same breath that he advocates its increasing militarization by creating Ethiopian naval access. How does that work? https://t.co/LwnFabOhXM
