I'm proud to announce that I finished in a tie for 2nd place ๐ฅ out of 290 entries in the 2026 Bracket Matrix!
Thank you to everyone that supported this account over the course of the season!
@MarchMadnessMBB@USUBasketball@MountainWest Hmm maybe the selection committee should start actually respecting the Mountain West. I was the 2nd most accurate bracketologist this year and had them listed as an 8 seed rather than a 9.
@MarchMadnessMBB@SaintLouisMBB Hmm maybe the NCAA selection committee should consider putting more good mid major teams in the tournament and give them better seeds.
"Looks pretty obvious to me that high-majors need to play mid-majors early in the season. Because they said we didn't play nobody. We played somebody now."
-High Point HC Flynn Clayman
Before we get to the matrix results, I asked everybody who submitted a bracket yesterday how many teams should play in the NCAA tourney.
48% said leave it at 68. 38% said go back to 64 (likely a result of seeing this season's bubble). Only 10% wanted something larger than 68.
The highest matrix score prior to this year was 382. 34 people beat that score in this go-around.
The best of them all for 2026 was Antonio Barbetta, who correctly picked all 68 teams and correctly seeded 61 teams. Congratulations!
This Keith Gill interview is yet another reminder how much more consistent and methodical the hoops selection process is than football.
And he can actually articulate their reasoning, unlike those Tuesday night CFP shows.
4th & 3 Analytics 2026 NCAA Tournament Bracket Thoughts:
-I am surprised that the committee actually valued results from Saturday/Sunday. Respect.
-Interesting explanation about how Miami (OH) was seeded as the last team in but not the last team selected. Makes sense considering how bad their predictive metrics were.
-I had the last four in correct but missed the order. Most people had Missouri in Dayton instead of NC State but I thought NC State's Q4 loss would move them to Dayton.
-I shouldn't have second guessed myself on the order of OU, Auburn, and SDSU. Originally had it correct but changed order to SDSU, OU, Auburn. I had Indiana as my 5th team out.
-Not terribly surprised that VCU would not have made it if they lost today. Not having a win over a tourney team despite having plenty of opportunities (especially for a mid major) would probably leave them out.
-Overall, I thought the selection committee did a great job seeding and selecting the teams. Much better than 2024, which was a disaster.
