Trump - with his devotion to Putin, abandonment of Ukraine, and lies about history- is the antithesis of everything Ronald Reagan stood for. He is aligning America with the enemies of the very freedom that generations have fought and died to defend. History will not be kind to those who are helping him, especially those who call themselves Reagan Republicans while they pretend not to see what’s happening.
Notable excerpts from Special Counsel Jack Smith’s letter to Justice Dept accompanying final report on Trump 2020 election conspiracy case:
“While we were not able to bring the cases we charged to trial, I believe the fact that our team stood up for the rule of law matters. I believe the example our team set for others to fight for justice without regard for the personal costs matters. The facts, as we uncovered them in our investigation and as set forth in my Report, matter. Experienced prosecutors know that you cannot control outcomes, you can only do your job the right way for the right reasons. I conclude our work confident that we have done so, and that we have met fully our obligations to the Department and to our country”
Republicans, mostly from recipient (or taker) states, are complaining and playing political games about funding California, the leader of donor states. Without California's contributions, their states would be dust bowls or sunken swamps.
What is a donor and a recipient or taker state, you may ask...
California consistently ranks as the largest contributor of federal taxes due to its high-income individuals, robust economy and corporate tax contributions.
As of 2024, California’s economy is the largest among U.S. states, with a gross state product (GSP) of approximately $4.080 trillion.
If California were an independent nation, it would rank as the world’s fourth-largest economy, surpassing Japan and closely following Germany.
It typically pays far more in federal taxes than it receives in federal spending, making it a “donor state.”
California does receive substantial federal spending, but when adjusted for its large population, the per capita federal spending is often less than the national average.
Federal spending includes Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, military funding, and infrastructure projects.
New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Illinois are also considered donor states. They contribute more in federal taxes than they receive in federal spending, similar to California.
Recipient states, often referred to as “taker” states, receive more in federal spending than they contribute in federal taxes. This balance is influenced by factors such as lower income levels, higher poverty rates and greater reliance on federal assistance programs.
Kentucky: Receives approximately $14,153 more per capita in federal spending than it contributes in taxes.
Virginia: Receives about $13,096 more per capita.
Alaska: Receives around $10,144 more per capita.
Mississippi: Receives approximately $9,838 more per capita.
West Virginia: Receives about $9,759 more per capita.
Alabama: Receives around $8,253 more per capita.
Montana: Receives approximately $7,593 more per capita.
New Mexico: Receives about $7,389 more per capita.
South Carolina: Receives around $7,283 more per capita.
Indiana: Receives approximately $6,365 more per capita.
Louisiana ranks among the top states in terms of federal dependency. Federal transfers accounted for 29.8% of Louisiana’s state and local government revenues, which was 10.3 percentage points higher than the national average.
So when Mike Johnson wants to get political with funding for the California fires, he needs to be reminded he's from a Taker State that needs Californians to pay the freight.

On this day four years ago, Officer Eugene Goodman put his life on the line by standing between a mob of insurrectionists and their goal of violently overturning democracy.
Security camera footage shows that he saved the lives of Mitt Romney, Mike Pence, and many others in the Senate chamber.
I tell my two sons Officer Goodman’s story every year on January 6th. I hope they grow up to be brave, selfless, and unflinching just like him.
As I process the devastating events that unfolded in New Orleans, I am in utter disbelief. Shamsud-Din Jabbar served under my Troop Command during our deployment to Afghanistan. He worked quietly and professionally in the S1 shop and as a mail clerk, ensuring the little things that kept us all connected to home were done with care and precision. He was a great Soldier, someone who showed discipline and dedication.
To think that the same individual who once embodied quiet professionalism could harbor so much hate, leading to such unspeakable atrocities, is incomprehensible and heartbreaking. This transformation is a stark reminder of the dangers of unchecked anger, isolation, and hate.
Please watch out for one another. Be there for your brothers and sisters in arms, your friends, and even those who seem distant or troubled. Don’t let hate take root—either in your own heart or in the hearts of those around you. We must care for one another before it’s too late.
My prayers go out to the victims and their families. May they find strength in this time of unimaginable grief. Let’s honor their memory by ensuring we stand together against hate in all its forms.

What matters is “who hires the big pharmacy benefit managers, and why do the hire them rather than pass through PBMs?”
If big companies stopped hiring them, and the Feds stopped approving them as part of Medicare programs, the cost of meds would drop significantly over night
Because they haven’t done so, those PBMs control 80 plus percent of the market. Which gives them control over all the brand drugs sold on the USA. Which allows them to prevent pharma from passing through rebates to @costplusdrugs and others.
If big companies stopped buying from them, and the BUCAs as well, the industry changes and care costs drop fast
And it would keep your local independent pharmacy in business. @RPhDouglas

When Ken Burns asked every living president to recite the Gettysburg Address in 2013, Pres. Carter shared this story about Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin and the Camp David Accords. (2023) @UNUMKenBurns

🇺🇸To those who courageously speak out against fascism, hate, and fight for equality: You are the true patriots, the hope of our future, and an inspiration to us all.
Crockett: 19 of the 26 Republicans on this committee voted against keeping FEMA funded and 9 are in states that were directly hit. I don’t understand why we pretend that we have all these issues with this agency when you don’t want to fund it.
@SNCmusic@Veeps I'm in! I won't make the holiday tour this year (first time in a decade!) because I'll be recovering from knee replacement surgery. This is perfect- Merry Christmas to me! ❤️🎙🎶
