For my fellow black people across the world. Let's drop this need to insist that our ancestors were kings and queens. As though royalty is the only measure of dignity.
The truth is that many of our ancestors were not monarchs.
They were farmers, blacksmiths, midwives, storytellers, traders. Ordinary people living ordinary lives and still their lives were full of meaning.
To be descended from those who planted yams, who raised cattle, who wove cloth and sang to the moon, is not shame. It is history.
Stop looking to Europeβs idea of royalty to justify your worth. Dignity is not the preserve of royalty. It belongs to humanity.
