5/7 The water beneath:

The site sits above the Llagas Subbasin — the sole drinking water source for Gilroy, San Martin, and Morgan Hill.

It already carries a perchlorate contamination plume approximately ten miles long from a factory that operated until 1995. Six private wells still exceed California's drinking water standard. 6/7 Phase 2 is NOT approved yet.

The community can still demand: ✅ Full supplemental EIR before Phase 2 ✅ Spanish-language community meetings ✅ Independent water and air quality analysis ✅ Zoning change requiring public hearings for ALL future data centers

The window is open — but only if the community acts now.

What Amazon most likely won't tell you about their Gilroy Data Center at their 6/3/26 Open House:

1 of 9 Amazon is building a 438,500 sq ft data center in Gilroy, CA.

It was approved by ONE city administrator. No public hearing. No council vote. No planning commission.

7/8 Phase 2 — a second building + 50MW power system — has NOT been permitted.

The City's own Final EIR states in writing: if the assumed Phase 2 technology isn't commercially available, a full new environmental review is required.

That technology does not exist at commercial scale today.
