50 Years of Pulsars

IAU 337 - 50 Years of Pulsars Conference @jodrellbank
4th - 8th September 2017

[50 Years of Pulsars @50YearsOfPsrs]

Tomorrow it will be 1000 days since the start of our meeting celebrating 50 years of pulsars. We want to take this chance to remember those we have sadly lost since and to look forward to a time when we can all meet again to celebrate pulsar and neutron star research. #StaySafe

The tree (Malus White Star) planted by Jocelyn Bell Burnell to mark the 50 years of pulsars meeting is in blossom! @IAU_org @jodrellbank Thanks @bbeckyburns

All of the #psr50yrs Daffodils smiling in the sun today @jodrellbank

[50 Years of Pulsars @50YearsOfPsrs]

The first of the Daffodils (Narcissus ‘Woodland Star’) that you all planted last year during the meeting are out. Thanks to Becky Burns at @jodrellbank . All 200 out soon, and tree almost in blossom.

[50 Years of Pulsars @50YearsOfPsrs]

We just observed PSR B1919+21/CP1919/LGM 1 with the Lovell @jodrellbank @OfficialUoM on the 50th anniversary of its discovery! #otd #pulsar #WomenInSTEM

[50 Years of Pulsars @50YearsOfPsrs]

Still finding @50YearsOfPsrs confetti!

[50 Years of Pulsars @50YearsOfPsrs]

@drannawatts You should know by now that \begin{tea} doesn’t work.

[50 Years of Pulsars @50YearsOfPsrs]

All the talks were amazing, it was a great pleasure to have you all here @jodrellbank

[50 Years of Pulsars @50YearsOfPsrs]

All the science talks are now over! We will need at least twice as many for the #psr100yrs !

[50 Years of Pulsars @50YearsOfPsrs]

But what about the 3D galactic magnetic field - you can use pulsars to probe it too!

[50 Years of Pulsars @50YearsOfPsrs]

'We will probably need SKA...' - common theme during this conference. A lot of exciting science will be enabled by new science facilities!

[50 Years of Pulsars @50YearsOfPsrs]

Pulsar can quickly change into the bright mode - within a single pulse. This behaviour is observed over a wide range of frequencies.

[50 Years of Pulsars @50YearsOfPsrs]

Quiet emission mode discovered in LOFAR observations: weak, sporadic emission with around 80% nulling fraction.

[50 Years of Pulsars @50YearsOfPsrs]

Charlotte's favourite pulsar: B0823+26 - 'a boring slow pulsar' which shows a lot of emission phenomena

[50 Years of Pulsars @50YearsOfPsrs]

Magnetic fields can be found throughout the whole Universe, but we still know relatively little about them.
