@JohnsWalks1 Aye for a while. The German Spring Offensive saw most of the Pioneer battalions lay down their pick and shovels to pick up their rifles. They took some sore casualties. 😱

@JohnsWalks1 Yes. It was a great PR stunt but not really practical on the front line. Also the first wave of recruits were wee tough miners while later recruits were really just small, undernourished boys.

@JohnsWalks1 Thanks for the fags!!! The 18th HLI were a Bantam battalion manned by wee men under regulation height for a regular unit. Did the fags stunt their growth. Raised by Celtic director Col John Shaughnessy. Celtic’s Hugh Hilley joined it underage, caught he was sent home to his mum.

A kind hearted Frenchman leaves flowers at the grave of Celtic player Frank Kelly. The son of Celtic legend James Kelly, Frank was accidentally killed in a railway incident after the end of the Great War.

Last night saw the passing of Celtic historian Pat Woods. A dear friend and mentor, he was always ready to support and encourage any aspiring Celtic authors with his in depth knowledge on all matters Celtic. We shall never see his likes again. RIP 🍀
