Carmen Mas-Machuca opened Thursday with a shift in framing: telecom networks are now critical infrastructure. That means planning can no longer chase capacity alone. Security and resilience have to sit at the centre. #EuCNC2026#6Gsummit
Then there are the cables. Undersea cables carry more than 99% of international internet traffic, which makes them both vital and a target. Resilience planning now has to weigh deliberate attacks, not only accidents and weather.

He also floated network-side regeneration: a capable server generating content and fanning it out to many destinations, rather than the network replicating one packet. Not something built, he stressed, but a possibility AI now opens up.
On the "Networks in the AI Era" panel, Petar Popovski of Aalborg University made the case for rethinking latency: not a fixed per-link target like 1 or 10 milliseconds, but coordinated latency across multiple agents acting together in the physical world. #EuCNC2026#6GSummit
The shift is from a single link meeting a deadline to a group of interacting agents staying in step. A different problem, he argued, and one current thinking doesn't yet capture.
