@WashProbs These things are important to clarify, but a more tactful response would be to check in with MWAA and verify that they are aware of the escalator outage.
@WashProbs One of those situations where Metro’s response is accurate but not very tactful. Having been through Dulles recently, that escalator is MWAA’s property, and it’s not even a new escalator (the tunnel to the station has been open for many years as it is also a tunnel to parking).
@wmataGM Please undo the disastrous decision of "Downtown" Largo. Names of terminals should be held to an even higher standard. The people surveyed clearly preferred the simple option of plain "Largo", but were ignored. Destroys all credibility of those surveys.
And this is why the logic of “lost fare revenue“ is deeply flawed. you cannot assume that everyone who evades fare is actually capable and willing to pay to ride.
#UPDATE - WMATA says Metro Transit Police issued four (4) citations today and made one arrest in Virginia.
MTPD says a number of people entered stations and left when they saw officers on patrol. @WUSA9 https://t.co/qMY1WNoTPH
@patbahn @jasonshevrin @cuneytdil The heated floor doesn't take away vents, those will still be there for cooling/air circulation. There just won't be heaters tied into the vents.
@MetrorailSafety @Sbarnyak71 @HeadwaysMatter Is it @MetrorailSafety's assertion that low press tonnage cars are UNsafe? This "technical objection" asserts that higher cars "provide for a higher level of safety", but it seems reasonable to me that this is merely the difference between "safe" and "abundantly cautious".
@tomroussey7news Sure, but there's an emergency gate that people frequently hold open. For those who do pay, the experience of using these is awful, particularly with luggage. And they're not wheelchair accessible.
@TunnelRatDC @IsMetroOnFire Randy himself is transparent on his Twitter account and in public statements. But I don't think the people that speak for the agency day to day are bought into his vision of transparency.
@AdamTuss@nbcwashington This isn't actually years worth of rust. It's not rusted through in the same way, say, an old tailpipe would be. Test trains have been running. But rail forms a layer of rust in just a few days of non-use. It's enough to prevent electrical conductivity but not a structural risk.
@AdilBari8 @FIXWMATA Other cities with similar cards (Tap in LA, Clipper in SF) use the same setup. Open payments makes sense to install when you’re overhauling your entire fare system (like New York is doing, phasing out MetroCard).
@AdilBari8 @FIXWMATA The virtual SmarTrip method WMATA went with was able to be launched systemwide (rail and bus) without changing hardware. Open payment systems like Chicago has require every touchpoint to be updated.
@RichardMorrison What you are describing is the standard date picker on Android (or on the web if using Google's Material Design). It's not obvious, but the year is a button that can be tapped, presenting a scrolling list of years. #tmyk
@designergirl@HakunaWMATA That's the ridership of the one rail line they have. Given that it's Texas, and a newish line without dense development surrounding many stations, low ridership isn't that surprising. Including bus, his old job had 61,000 riders per day in 2021. WMATA is for sure bigger though.
