Please don’t ban kratom!

We’ve heard from countless consumers, have been closely following these stories and developments, and are very active in the community. We understand that there are legitimate questions and concerns that deserve to be addressed, but we believe prohibition has and NEVER will be the answer.

There are ways to address those concerns through responsible regulation, including testing, accurate labeling, age restrictions, potency standards, and strong consumer protections.

And we’d love the opportunity to have an open and honest conversation with you about this. We’re not interested in dismissing concerns or shutting down the conversation, but we want to make sure consumers, policymakers, and communities all have the opportunity to hear one another and look at the evidence.

We’d be happy to connect and talk through this with you anytime.

@randy_westlund I’d really encourage you not to let one person’s comment define everyone advocating for kratom. There are people in this conversation who are asking for the exact opposite: responsible regulation, testing, labeling, age restrictions, and consumer protections.
You don’t have to agree with every advocate to stay open to learning about the issue. I’d genuinely love for you to hear from the people who are approaching this from a public-health and consumer-safety perspective before writing the whole movement off. Would be happy to have a conversation with you regarding these topics!

This is one of the strongest arguments I’ve read against the federal government’s plan to temporarily place 7OH into Schedule I.

If HHS is still asking the public for data to determine what amount of 7OH constitutes an “imminent hazard,” then it lacks the evidence needed to justify using emergency scheduling powers.

People’s lives are at stake. In my own research, I've talked to lots of 7OH consumers in the chronic pain community. My concern is that removing access without understanding the consequences could drive these pain sufferers and others back to prescription opioids or dangerous street drugs.

I think the answer is independent research, responsible regulation, and evidence-based policy. Not prohibition based on an unproven threshold.

As Jackie Subeck writes: “The right response to uncertainty is research, not prohibition.”

HHS should withdraw its recommendation. DEA should abandon the temporary scheduling action. Science must come before politics.

We put out a call to all of our advocates to oppose a kratom ban, including a national email, and call to attend the hearing. We do not have the funding to send people ourselves, so much call on our our advocates.
