A few things I've learned since joining Post and Mastodon:
1) https://t.co/xJCsv94Tnl is much more similar to the Twitter user experience than Mastodon, with a few advantages over both sites, including long form and rich text, and easy sign up (albeit with a wait list)...
I heard there's another place to hangout so I decided to go check it out and it seems OK. If you decide to stop by, make sure to look me up and say hi (I'm using a slightly new name now at that spot and elsewhere).
@HNLTransitFan@wmata I grew up in DC and have been back for a few extended visits since (like, months-long visits). Less than a day is not even close to enough time! I would suggest checking out the Lincoln Memorial - go find the spot that MLK Jr. delivered his speech. That's the must-see spot, IMO.
I updated this page.
Spoiler: People are evaluating the various platforms as separate entities, but if Threads and Post, do indeed federate, the way to evaluate them will be “walled gardens” v. platforms that are more widely connected.

@BarbaraBarrigan @Robert_E_Kelly Most underrated president maybe ever. Biden's had an impressive first term despite all these people acting like he hasn't.
@SJLTransit I would suggest that it's not as difficult to get started as it might seem. I don't think the server you join, for example, matters very much. Feel free to DM if you have questions (I don't check my Twitter much anymore, so I might be slow to reply lol).
@MassJumbo@HNLTransitFan From reading the Star-Advertiser's series on each of the stations, it seems that mid-to-higher density and transit-oriented developments are planned for the areas surrounding those stations. I guess we'll see.
@SJLTransit I like Post quite a bit, but Mastodon is best for a few reasons: 1) truly decentralized, 2) not algorithm-driven, 3) already established site, 4) 'edit' button. It's got a learning curve, as does anything, but it's worth it.
@HNLTransitFan @catskittyns @marcelhonore I just think we need more interviews with 8-year-olds who can repeat what their parents have been saying. "Well, it didn't have the TVs like Japan has and it didn't go 'choo-choo' and I had to hold my pee until I got home." 🙃
@HNLTransitFan @EAducator @hnldts I really enjoyed seeing and hearing the announcements in ʻōlelo.
Also, I wonder why they don't say doors open makai/mauka instead of left/right. When you're riding backwards, left is right, but mauka is always mauka. Even the system map on board uses makai/mauka.
@StarAdvertiser Revenue should not be a consideration at all. Roads don't generate revenue because that's not how this stuff works. Rail is a transportation mode, not a for-profit business.
At Puʻuhonua O Hōnaunau and Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historical Parks, I was grateful to visit with @Interior staff and their partners in the Native Hawaiian Community to learn about how they are stewarding these areas to promote respectful and thoughtful visitation.
@justin_menina@HNLTransitFan Weird thing is that there are bus routes to the stations - many running at 10 minutes intervals! - but the car brain is a hard thing to deprogram.
I can't throw stones though. I drove to the Keone‘ae station park and ride. Also, that's what it's there for (and why we need more).
@EAducator @HNLTransitFan Today was a stress test for the system, I think. Lots of riders - more than I expected. Park and rides full. Lots of interest in rail. Despite some problems, I think it impressed and bodes well for the future of transit on the island.
@EAducator @HNLTransitFan I was at the Hālawa station when a train was stopped outside, causing delays. When the train finally pulled in, the doors closed prematurely, preventing passengers from exiting/boarding. I saw a family get split up. Dad and two kids exit, doors close, train leaves... "Mom??" 😳
@HNLTransitFan Waiawa Station is such a cool spot. I love the stream and the trees in that area. Unfortunate that there isn't better pedestrian access however.
