FRIENDLY REMINDER THAT WE LITERALLY DEPEND ON TREES, CLEAN WATER, HEALTHY SOIL, AND STABLE ECOSYSTEMS TO EXIST. THAT'S NOT AN OPINION, IT IS HOW LIFE WORKS. STOP TREATING OUR FORESTS, RIVERS, OCEANS, AND WILDLIFE LIKE THEY'RE REPLACEABLE
@onlystresstoday Don't speak for everyone a lot of people were certainly not fine before "them" they just weren't aware of their trauma and trigger points until meeting that person. One shoe doesn't fit all
Just in case you’re wondering what kind of place the UK is, a few jewish ambulances being set on fire will bring about more COBRA meetings and hysterical mass media coverage than actual people being burned out of their homes by masked gangs rampaging through the streets.
@ishaantharoor@mmbilal Trumpfantino is a clown. But I fear he’s a symptom of FIFA going the way of all the multilateral institutions of the post WW2 era, as the West reverts to the values on which its wealth and power was built
FIFA's president can invent a farcical peace prize to flatter the ego of the president of the United States and spend months pandering to his political project, but Haiti's national team can't acknowledge their national struggle for independence because it's too "political"
Denying him entry was one thing but they're literally calling this innocent man a TERRORIST now and tarnishing his image in front of the whole world. Sick bastards.
A deaf black man is opening a coffee and arts shop in south London, SE18 3TB, grand opening is 13 June. All coffee and pastries are £1 for the day, go support.
On my quiet days, I just hope I can accept whatever is happening in my life right now. I’m tired of overthinking, tired of worrying about things beyond my control, tired of fighting battles inside my own mind. I just want to soften, to release the weight I’ve been holding, and find peace in simply being right here, as I am.
Stop telling me that the problem is Netanyahu.
Israelis gathered together to watch bombs destroy entire towns in Lebanon on a big screen together.
Israeli society is deeply sick and dangerous.
My cousin has been in Canada for six years.
Every month, money lands in my aunt's account.
School fees, house rent, his younger ones' upkeep.
Everybody calls him the family's blessing.
He called last Christmas.
Laughing and asking about everyone.
He sounded fine.
I asked: "How are you doing over there?"
He said: "I'm managing. Canada is good o."
He visited two years ago. We killed a goat.
The whole family came out.
He was smiling in every photo.
Nobody noticed he had lost weight.
I noticed. But I didn't say anything.
I thought maybe it was the cold.
Last month, his friend called my aunt.
Said my cousin had not been eating well.
That some months he sends everything and keeps nothing.
That he cries sometimes. Alone at night.
That he had been doing this for years.
My aunt was quiet for a long time.
Then she said:
"But he never said anything."
...
Well, he never said anything.
Because nobody ever asked beyond "how is Canada?"
There are nineteen restaurants and nine bars in parliament, all serving subsidised alcohol. This is what happens when a person who has actually worked sees how MPs actually 'work'.
Last October, some 2000 Christians gathered in Times Square to celebrate the Eucharist. No one seemed to have a problem with it.
In November, the 10th annual Diwali celebration, a Hindu one, drew huge crowds, booths and other such trappings. No one complained.
Today, hundreds of Jewish teens "took over" Times Square, also an annual event. No one complained.
But earlier this week, hundreds of Muslims gathered in Times Square for Tarawih prayers, marking the start of Ramadan. That was greeted with responses like the contemptible one below. The #Islamophobia on display is very real, and anyone taking issue like this certainly does have a problem with Islam. And also with common decency. They are, however, quite comfortable with hypocrisy.
