The global football body announced that it had suspended the red card — which had meant an automatic one-match ban — after United States President Donald Trump urged FIFA chief Gianni Infantino to review the case.

Balogun, who plays his club football for Monaco in France, has scored three goals for the cohosts at this World Cup and is the team’s leading scorer in the tournament.

The FIFA decision prompted criticism from Belgium’s football association, Europe’s top football body, a former FIFA boss, multiple top former players and many others. Critics argued that overturning a red card suspension after direct political intervention undermined the integrity of the tournament and set a dangerous precedent.

On Monday evening, the Belgian football association also accused FIFA of effectively killing any chance for it to challenge the global sports body’s decision. Hours later, FIFA rejected Belgium’s appeal against its decision.

By the way, my prediction was wrong on Portugal wining the world cup . This is the second time my big prediction has failed - even though I have a 98% record of accuracy.

I think the cup now belong to France or Morocco . I still do not see Argentina winning it.

Akin Abolade, aka Mr Lilgaga, an associate of popular socialite Samson Eletu, popularly known as Sam Larry, has debunked the rumour that the socialite, who was recently involved in an auto crash, is dead.

Abolade made this disclosure while speaking with PUNCH Online via Instagram on Monday.

According to him, Sam Larry was involved in a fatal crash, but he is alive after he spoke with him just a few hours after the incident happened.

The socialite and music promoter was reportedly hospitalised following a road accident along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road in Lagos State.

The crash, which reportedly occurred in the early hours of Saturday, involved the vehicle conveying Sam Larry and a trailer.

A viral clip that emerged on social media showed the scene of the accident, indicating that the vehicle collided with the trailer, leaving it extensively damaged.
