Spain blacklists Palantir from public and private state-controlled companies
——
The Spanish government has implemented a blacklist against the US data analytics firm Palantir on 1 July, barring public and private state-controlled companies from establishing new contracts with the company.
This shift is driven by national security concerns regarding the protection of classified data and a desire to maintain Spanish sovereignty over sensitive information.
While the military continues to use Palantir’s services under a preexisting agreement, the leadership in Madrid is facing internal pressure to decide on its renewal before it expires.
The decision also reflects geopolitical friction between Spain and the United States, alongside a broader European movement to favor local technology over foreign software. To reduce this reliance on external providers, Spain is significantly increasing its investments in domestic tech firms like Openchip.
This policy alignment mirrors similar actions taken by other European nations, such as France and Germany, who are prioritizing regional digital independence.
