Friends, when Paul says, “Have no anxiety at all,” he doesn’t mean eliminating all fear and worry. And the clue is in what he says next: “But in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God.”
Paul knows that, like an ocean, the surface of our lives will always have crashing waves and winds. But just as the ocean’s depths remain perfectly serene despite the storm above, we, too, can find peace by moving to a deeper and more central place: the place where you are here and now being created by God.
Root your life in Christ—and you will find serenity despite any and all anxiety.
A video of a Catholic priest breaking down in tears and struggling to raise the chalice above his head while saying the consecration prayers during Mass spread across social media this week, prompting the priest to issue a statement through his diocese.
“Take this all of you and drink from it: For this is the chalice…” Father Brent Bowman prayed at the altar, followed by a six-second pause while celebrating Mass for the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church in Hopkins, Minnesota, on Sept. 14.
He continued the consecration prayer through tears and then sobbed for nearly one minute at the altar, struggling to raise the chalice. He continued to cry as he raised the chalice and was weeping as he knelt before the blood of Christ after the consecration.
Bowman’s emotional response to the consecration was captured on video because the parish livestreams its daily Masses on YouTube and it spread across social media platforms, with many viewers wondering what prompted the reaction.
In his statement, he explained that he did not witness what the Church considers a “Eucharistic miracle,” such as when the accidents of the bread and wine apparently change in some way along with the substance. Rather, he said, “I had a private spiritual experience” during the Mass.
“During the consecration prayer over the wine at the altar, as I spoke the words, I was given what I believe to be internal knowledge of the power of these words being spoken and the reality of their effect to the point that I had difficulty speaking,” Bowman said in his statement.
“With each word, I became more physically overwhelmed as seen in the video,” he said. “At the same time, I was given sensory knowledge of the weight of God’s power coming down upon the altar, and I felt the heaviness of Jesus’s substantial presence in the chalice in my hands.”
“The chalice became too heavy to hold as I felt it pulled down to rest upon the altar,” Bowman said. “I felt my hands fixed to the chalice of the Precious Blood, and I could not physically move it. Attempting to elevate the Precious Blood, which I was not able to do for a period of time, I believe I was given grace to understand more deeply the bittersweetness of Our Lord’s Passion and how much blood Christ shed for the immense weight of all our sins.”
“I believe I experienced this weight in the chalice,” he said. “This spiritual experience emotionally and physically overwhelmed me as evident in the Mass recording.”
Bowman noted that spiritual experiences are “completely unmerited gifts and signs of God’s abundant love for all his people” but “not necessarily signs of any person’s holiness.”
“I pray this brief testimony moves all our hearts to contemplate more deeply the mysteries of the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist and the Precious Blood,” he said.
Although Bowman did not experience a “Eucharistic miracle” in the sense of the bread or the wine altering its appearance, God does perform a miracle at every Mass during consecration, known as transubstantiation.
When the priest consecrates the Eucharist, the “substance” of bread and wine does not remain, but instead the bread and wine are transubstantiated into the true body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ even though it maintains the physical appearance and chemical structure of bread and wine.
“The presence of Christʼs true body and blood in this sacrament cannot be detected by sense, nor understanding, but by faith alone, which rests upon Divine authority,” St. Thomas Aquinas wrote in the “Summa Theologica.”

Nah. This man is exceptional.
His integrity and transparency is exemplary. Very rarely, if at all, has Nigeria had a politician who is this honest.
“The money was therefore left 100 per cent intact in First Bank, in Account No. 2018779464, with a balance of over ₦2.13 billion.”
Debunking the Phantom Debts and Ecological Loan Fallacy
My attention has been drawn to trending claims by the Anambra State Government that my administration left behind inherited debts, including a ₦2 billion ecological loan, contractor liabilities, and unpaid salaries, gratuities, and pensions. This is completely false.
We systematically liquidated historical gratuities and arrears dating back several years, amounting to over ₦35 billion. At the point of handover, the state owed nothing in salaries, gratuities, or pensions, nor did we owe anything to any contractor for projects duly executed and certified.
The ₦2 billion ecological fund in question was released barely three months before the end of my tenure for the Oko/Umuchiana erosion crisis. Despite pressure to spend the money, I refused, insisting that it should be left for my successor because government is a continuum and the funds were tied to a specific project.
The money was therefore left 100 per cent intact in First Bank, in Account No. 2018779464, with a balance of over ₦2.13 billion.
It is important to stress that funds tied to specific projects or set aside for particular purposes were not even included in the over ₦75 billion in savings we left behind.
If anybody can establish anything to the contrary, I will stop campaigning. -PO

MERCY TUESDAY
(Psalm 31:2)
In you, O Lord, I take refuge.
Let me never be put to shame.
Prayer for Mercy:
Merciful Father, on this Mercy Tuesday, and as we honour Our Lady of Sorrows, I come before You just as I am, with my burdens, wounds and tears I have carried for so long. You see every part of me, Lord, more than I can see myself. Nothing in my heart is too painful, too complicated, or too broken for Your tender mercy.
Father, there are many things going on in my life that I cannot change, draw me close to You, be my refuge and my strength, and remind me always, by your grace, that I am not facing life alone.
Our Lady of Sorrows, standing beneath the Cross, stay beside me in my own suffering. Teach me to remain close to Jesus when I do not understand what I am going through and when the road ahead seems dark. Help me believe that even here, in the deepest places of my pain, God is near and His love is still holding me.
I declare: The mercy of God is my refuge. Sorrow will not swallow me, fear will not overcome me, and pain will not have the final word over my life. Amen.
Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us.
Jesus, I trust in You.

In the long tradition of Catholic meditation on the Passion, one particular suffering of Christ has often been described as the most intense — and yet the least visible.
According to an account associated with St. Bernard of Clairvaux, the saint once asked the Lord which of His wounds caused Him the greatest pain. Jesus is said to have replied that it was not one of the nail wounds or even the lance thrust into His side, but the deep gash on His shoulder.
There the rough wood of the Cross pressed and tore into His flesh as He carried the full weight of humanity’s sins along the road to Calvary. Unlike the other wounds, this one remained hidden, untreated, and constantly aggravated with every step.
This wound carries a profound spiritual meaning. The physical burden of the Cross was inseparable from the far heavier weight of the world’s sins. In bearing the Cross, Christ was bearing the full load of human guilt, rejection, and separation from God. The shoulder wound thus becomes a sign of that invisible, crushing reality: the most painful wound was not only the torn flesh, but the weight of every sin He freely chose to carry out of love.
Devotion to the Shoulder Wound of Christ invites believers to contemplate not only the public sufferings of the Crucifixion but also the quiet, crushing burden Jesus bore out of pure love.
Many turn to a special prayer asking for the grace to carry their own hidden crosses with patience and fidelity. This lesser-known aspect of the Passion continues to speak powerfully to those who suffer in silence.
Have you ever reflected on the Shoulder Wound of Jesus? How does this hidden suffering of Christ resonate with you?

TODAY IS A FEAST DAY, EXALTATION OF THE HOLY CROSS , AND WE ARE ALL EXPECTED TO ATTEND MASS.
BE IN THE KNOW | Five Things to Know About the Exaltation of the Holy Cross
The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is celebrated every September 14. It invites us to look beyond the Cross as an instrument of death and recognize it as the sign of Christ’s victory and our salvation.
1️⃣ The Cross is the instrument of our salvation.
Jesus transformed the Cross from an instrument of torture into the place where He offered Himself completely for the salvation of humanity. “We preach Christ crucified.” (1 Cor 1:23)
2️⃣ We do not worship the wood—we worship Christ.
Catholics honor the Cross because it represents the sacrifice of Jesus. The honor given to the Cross ultimately points to the One who died upon it.
3️⃣ The Cross reveals God’s love.
The Cross shows us how far God’s love goes: “God so loved the world that he gave his only Son.” (Jn 3:16) The Cross is not a sign of God’s defeat, but of His self-giving love.
4️⃣ Christians are called to carry their own crosses.
Jesus says, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” (Mt 16:24) Our sufferings, sacrifices, and struggles can become opportunities to unite ourselves with Christ.
5️⃣ The Cross leads to resurrection.
The Christian story does not end on Calvary. The Cross leads to the empty tomb. Through Christ’s death and Resurrection, suffering and death do not have the final word.
✝️ The Cross is not something we simply look at—it is something we live.
When we make the Sign of the Cross, we proclaim our faith in the Christ who loved us “to the end.” (Jn 13:1)
Ave Crux, Spes Unica — Hail, O Cross, our only hope!
