#AAPIYouth#EndBullying
Young people aren't waiting for adults to make our communities safer, they're stepping up and taking action themselves.
It's inspiring to meet with young leaders who are working to improve our society.
Mahalo @aapiyouthrising for fighting for a more inclusive future!
Today marks the two year anniversary of the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act being signed into law.
Passing this law was an important step forward in our fight to end anti-Asian violence in our communities, but our work is far from over.

And a special mahalo to Mina, the Founder and Executive Director of AAPI Youth Rising, for gifting me a beautiful drawing she made of my mother.
Mina started AAPI Youth Rising when she was still in middle school! She's an inspiration to me and countless across the country.
It was great to chat and spend time with young leaders from AAPI Youth Rising to mark AAPI Day Against Bullying and Hate today.
These young people are dedicated to making positive changes in their communities, and they inspire me to continue fighting for a more inclusive future.
A 39-year-old woman, who is transient, was arrested on suspicion of committing an "anti-Asian hate crime" after she allegedly spat on a man and used an ethnic slur, officials in Northern California say. https://t.co/OJT0sjLJ9N
These encounters all happened in the same time span, which to me is tragic. If you want to help raise awareness of these events and come together in solidarity with the aappi community, please join us on March 28, 2 pm at 84 Bolivar drive to express your feelings.
It saddens me that the Asian American Pacific Islander community has been the target of many hate crimes over the past year. The trump administration used incendiary language like the “Wuhan virus” and the “China virus”, increasing xenophobic sentiment.
On February 3, Noel Quintana, a 61 year old, was slashed across the face with a box cutter, while on the same day, a 71 year old was pushed and robbed while crossing the street. To the families and friends of the victims, we are sorry for the emotional harm brought upon you.
An example of an attack was the murder of an 84 year old Thai american on January 28, causing heartbreak to the family and friends of the man. We are so sorry for the loss and sadness that this attack brought.
