Taking time to rest can be especially important for individuals with autism and their families. Moments of pause may help reduce stress, support emotional regulation, and create space to recharge and reconnect. Rest is an important part of well-being for everyone.

TERM: Stimulus control (SD)
A cue that signals which behavior is expected in a specific moment.
Explanation: Stimulus control happens when a specific cue consistently signals that a certain behavior is expected. Over time, children learn to respond to these cues in everyday situations, helping build independence and predictability in daily routines.
For example, hearing “Clean up, please” may signal that it is time to put toys away. Consistent cues can help children understand what comes next and respond with more independence.

ABA Myth vs. Reality: A full 40-hour ABA therapy schedule is necessary for every child.
Myth: Every child needs 40 hours of ABA therapy each week.
Reality: There is no one-size-fits-all number for ABA therapy hours.
Each recommendation depends on the child's strengths, goals, support needs, age, routines, and family priorities.
The right plan is the one that supports meaningful progress at the child's pace.

Meltdowns are not bad behavior. They can occur when the brain and body are overwhelmed by excessive noise, change, stress, or sensory input. Staying calm, reducing demands, and offering space can help a child feel safer than judgment ever will. 🕊️ Responding with patience can change the moment.

Decoding ABA: An Essential Guide
Term: Schedules of Reinforcement
Explanation: A schedule is how often and when reinforcement is delivered. Fixed ratio gives a reward after a set number of responses. Variable ratio gives it after a changing average number, which often produces steady responding. Interval schedules deliver reinforcement based on time plus a correct response. Matching the schedule to the learner keeps motivation strong without overuse.
