ABSIP in partnership with ENS was honoured to host Mr Phuthuma Nhleko in a ๐ณ๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฎ๐ on his newly published book ๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ป๐๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ ๐ฃ๐ฒ๐ผ๐ฝ๐น๐ฒ. The conversation was moderated by ABSIP Women in Focus chairperson Mbali Motanyane, covering key insights from the book unpacking how a quarter of humanity could thrive in Africa by 2050.
With one in four people in the world expected to be from Africa by 2050, the book maps out Africaโs renaissance through a Pan-African identity, technological leapfrogging and global influence.
In a room full of the countryโs leading financial services professionals, the conversation covered where we are as a continent, where we are headed and what our greatest challenges are, highlighting key themes such as:
ย ย โข Africaโs demographic trajectory demands long-term thinking and planning.
ย ย โข The cost of capital remains a structural challenge that requires collective solutions.
ย ย โข Pan-African integration is not optional; it is foundational to unlocking growth.
ย ย โข The private sector needs to play a critical role in deploying capital and building at scale.
ย ย โข The pace of gender transformation must accelerate.
As ABSIP, we remain committed to creating platforms that not only convene dialogue but also challenge thinking and inspire action, particularly in advancing a more inclusive and globally competitive financial services sector.
Our sincere thank you to Mr Phuthuma Nhleko, the ENS leadership led by Mr Michael Katz (Chairman), and all those who contributed to a rich and thoughtโprovoking dialogue.
We look forward to hosting more conversations that not only reflect on Africaโs potential but also advance in finding sustainable solutions in our domestic market and beyond our borders.
