With all due respect: Andrew I don’t ever heard “professionals engaged in communications” We outnumber “professionals” and we are going to be there.
But I heard and participate in Amateur Radio communications just for fun.
Here in the USA we have ARES and RACES to support law enforcement agencies during emergencies, they have nets regularly. Regardless we are ready.

Last year, I made a few radio contacts with @Astro_Kjell (KO5MOS), operating as NA1SS from the ISS. After he returned to Earth, I sent a letter with a USB stick containing photos, along with audio & video of his activities. Yesterday, I received this from NASA:
