It follows Brazilian wellness influencer Kat Torres who abused, manipulated and controlled the very people who were her fans. The contrast of her glossy, aspirational lifestyle set against the dark reality of her cruel behaviour and criminal activity is shocking and fascinating.

That being said, it is becoming clear that even more sinister dangers are linked to this technology. One such nefarious harm is human trafficking, which is the subject of BBC Eye Investigation's Like, Follow, Trafficked: Insta's Fake Guru, a documentary I highly recommend.

It would be fair to say that whilst the full extent of the negative impact these platforms can have on people and wider societies aren't yet fully understood, the general harms to mental health and distortions to public discourse have been acknowledged for some time now.
