The Asian Development Policy Report 2026 examines how evolving global value chains can deliver more inclusive and sustainable growth across Asia and the Pacific.
Global value chains helped power Asia and the Pacific’s rise, but the gains remain deeply uneven. Participation alone does not automatically translate into development gains.
AI and digitalization are transforming production and trade, geopolitical shifts are reshaping supply networks, the energy transition is creating new demand, and environmental compliance is redefining market access.
To better understand what these shifts mean for economies at different stages of global value chain participation, I encourage you to read the report: https://t.co/9sP6SaryVY

I arrived in Washington, DC, for high-level events and engagements with leaders from across governments, the private sector, and partner institutions.
At a time of heightened uncertainty, strengthening cooperation and economic resilience has never been more important.
Over the coming days, I look forward to exchanging views on how we can work together to support developing economies across Asia and the Pacific through stronger partnerships, greater investment, and a shared commitment to sustainable development.
I look forward to providing key takeaways while in Washington.
At @CFR_org, I shared how the ongoing conflict in the Middle East is not a distant geopolitical issue, but a systemic shock with direct consequences for Asia and the Pacific.
As the world’s largest energy-importing region, Asia faces rising costs across fuel, freight, and finance.
@ADB_HQ is acting with speed and scale. We are providing fast-disbursing budget support and expanding trade and supply chain finance to help governments stabilize their economies and support the private sector in maintaining critical flows.
Periods of uncertainty can be used to build stronger foundations for long-term stability and advance regional cooperation.
Critical minerals power energy security and digital growth.
Yet supply chains remain fragile and concentrated. Multilateral Development Banks are stepping in to build resilient, responsible value chains to create jobs and build a resilient future.

Developing Asia and the Pacific faces a severe test. The Middle East conflict is disrupting markets through higher energy prices, feeding inflation and tightening financial conditions.
The impacts remain extremely uncertain and will depend on the duration and trajectory of the conflict. Our latest Asian Development Outlook shows growth could slow substantially if the conflict persists or escalates.
The policy response is crucial. Targeted support can protect the most vulnerable while preserving fiscal stability, and clear monetary policy will keep inflation expectations in check. And in this fragile global landscape, deeper regional cooperation is needed more than ever. Stronger energy connectivity and resilient supply chains will be critical to reducing vulnerability and unlocking new opportunities. @ADB_HQ strongly supports all such efforts.
