DG TRADOC has released a gaming list as part of the Army Wargaming 2021-2025 Directive - have a look for some recommended commercial and professional wargames to support individual and collective PME - what game will you play today?
What commercial games would you use in a military professional gaming list, this is our Chairman's thoughts:
Basic Level: Battle for Moscow, Memoir 44 and Take That Hill
Intermediate Level: Twilight struggle, Race to the Rhine/Moscow, Strike of the Eagle and Napoleon 1806/1807.
Great to be able to facilitate/help prepare two @AustralianArmy officers from 2/14 LHR for this U.S. Army PME activity. Congrats to Riley and Stefano who came 3rd overall in a tough field. Games like BFM can be great unit PME activities. @DG_TRADOC@covetweet@helmandproject
Great to read this story. Adapting to the challenges of training during COVID-19 and engaging in tactical decision making in a safe-to-fail environment. The re-invigoration of wargaming being embraced by the next generation of @ArmyROTC officers is a positive sign for the future!
This is the first post we’ve ever had written by a current .@ArmyROTC cadet.....and it’s worth the read! These cadets and their instructors offer a great example of making the most of training in a COVID environment. https://t.co/0Z0p5Sx3Ne
Congratulations to the ADFWGA Chairman for being recognised with a @covetweet coin for his recent article. The ADFWGA is looking forward to collaborating with Connections Oz later this year and it is great to be a part of PAXsims Derby House Principles. Good gaming!
Humbled to receive a coin from @covetweet for my recent article on wargaming: https://t.co/laqWjSB9a3. The article has generated some great engagements and collaboration opportunities for the @adfwga as well. What's next: the U.S. Army Introduction to Wargaming Course in Sep 2020
The ADFWGA has been part of the re-invigoration of wargaming in the @AustralianArmy since 2017. Wargaming develops decision making and critical thinking skills in a contested, adversarial environment where it is safe-to-fail. #ArmyTacticsComp2020
'When..you mention wargaming, they will go straight to COA Analysis in the MAP; (COA Analysis) is actually an extremely poor example of doing a wargame’. This excellent article will convince you why and inspire you to exercise your mind and 'fight club'. https://t.co/xvnGXSFn4I
Another example of using commercially available (war)games to provide unit based PME opportunities. 'They provide the opportunity to exercise tactical decision making against an adaptive, thinking adversary in a safe-to-fail environment.' @covetweet#ArmyTacticsComp2020
#TeamKrulak’s wargaming library is growing! Thanks to generosity of a couple of donors, we’ll have a bunch of new options available once we open our doors again!
An interesting read - https://t.co/wFBwSaXwsg
"Unlike reading a book or watching a movie, the wargames in Fight Club gave you experiential learning that is hard to replicate."
Experience the ADFWGA's take on this: Army Tactics Comp (30 Nov - 2 Dec 20) @UKFightClub1 @covetweet
Last week the ADFWGA Chairman participated in a test run of the distance learning version of Napoleon 1806 for the AY20 @USACGSC class. Commercial games teach us about history and provide a great PME opportunity; they exercise decision making in a safe-to-fail environment.
COVID-19 has forced the cancellation of ANZAC Cup 20; in lieu of the event, many of our members will use online tools (TTop Sim/Vassal) to wargame. The ADFWGA is moving ahead with planning HEROCON 20 (Brisbane) in Dec and ANZAC Cup 21. Stay safe!
Great to see the U.S. Army supporting attendance of its personnel at #lvo2020 Tabletop Wargaming enables visualisation of the battlespace, tactical decision making against an adversary and stimulates discussions in a safe to fail environment. #ADFWGA https://t.co/pSOTVjlzLs
A great result from HEROCON 2019: $7,297 raised for Soldier On which combined with our other events means our wargaming community has raised $13.5k for @SoldierOnAust - a massive thanks to everyone that made this result possible. Just proves toy soldiers can help real soldiers!
HEROCON 2019 has wrapped up and the team has been busy with the post event admin; now the planning for ANZAC Cup 2020 begins (Exhibition Park in Canberra 18-19 April 2020). Event details are available at: https://t.co/A1BFCkAEXT
The doors have been thrown open HEROCON 2019 is about to start - to date this year the ADFWGA has raised just over $6,200 for @SoldierOnAust hopefully we will be able to add to that impressive total over the course of the weekend. Good luck to all the participants!
Having wrapped up the Army Tactics Comp we are setting up the ADFWGA’s largest event since we formed in 2011 - 188 gamers will converge on the Sleeman Centre to participate in 13 game systems @ HEROCON 2019. The ADFWGA proudly supports @SoldierOnAust good luck to all this weekend
The 2nd Army Tactics Competition has been run and won; congratulations to 2/14 LHR (1st and 2nd) and @5AvnRegtAusArmy (3rd). Great to see so many teams getting involved with this #PME activity - looking forward to a bigger event in 2020 - contact the ADFWGA for more details
