𝘌𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘔. 𝘝𝘪𝘴𝘷𝘦𝘴𝘷𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘺𝘢 (Penguin Random House India) by Aparajith Ramnath, Associate Professor, School of Arts and Sciences, Ahmedabad University, has been awarded the prestigious Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay NIF Book Prize 2025. The jury, which included N. Chandrasekaran (Chairman, Tata Sons and Tata Group), Manish Sabharwal (Entrepreneur), Niraja Gopal Jayal (Political Scientist), Srinath Raghavan (Historian), Rahul Matthan (Eminent Attorney), Jawed Ashraf (Former Ambassador of India to France), and Yamini Aiyar (Public Policy Scholar), recognised it as the most outstanding non-fiction book on modern and contemporary India this year. The award will be presented on December 6, 2025 at the Bangalore Literature Festival.
In Professor Ramnath’s words, “Visvesvaraya was easily the most famous Indian engineer of the century, and yet much more than that description suggests.” His legacy, as the book shows, is not abstract but lived. If you have picnicked at Brindavan Gardens near the KRS Dam, studied at IISc Bengaluru or ICT Mumbai, drawn water in Hyderabad from Himayat Sagar or Osman Sagar, or used Mysore Sandal Soap at home, you have already encountered his work whether you realised it or not.
The biography is the result of seven years of extensive archival research across India and abroad, drawing from letters, technical papers, newspapers and official documents to reconstruct not only the life of a remarkable individual but also the story of a modern nation.Congratulations to Professor Aparajith Ramnath on this extraordinary recognition.

“The best legal minds have always engaged deeply with psychology because the legal process itself is interpretive. To give justice, one must understand the human mind,” says Professor Shilpa Pandit of the School of Arts and Sciences.
Yet, she observes, the complexity and the absurdity of the Indian system, which remains divided: lawyers study law, psychologists study psychology, and neither truly engages with the other. The result is a fractured framework where psychology students often overlook legal protections for their clients, while legal practitioners lack the psychological insight to grasp lived human experiences.
Her book, Social Psychology and Law in India, brings together psychology, law, and social policy to show that justice cannot exist without understanding the mind. Rooted in her own interdisciplinary journey, the book calls for professionalising psychology and humanising law, helping future practitioners think critically, act ethically, and engage compassionately with justice.

We often say the city is our classroom, but our BA (Hons) student Jhinuk Sharma took that a step further and expanded it to encompass the entire world. She became one of only 40 delegates representing India at the World Youth Festival Assembly 2025 in Russia, the globe's largest youth gathering.
Representing India among 6,000 participants from 120 countries, Jhinuk gained an inside view of how young leaders across diverse nations think about critical global issues, absorbing different cultures, morals, and values in real time. It was an intensive, living dialogue. Through cross-cultural workshops, she learned about the intricacies of social entrepreneurship, mentorship, and cooperation within the BRICS framework. This experience solidified her academic perspective, which began back at Ahmedabad University.
"At Ahmedabad University, we are constantly encouraged to think beyond disciplinary boundaries," Jhinuk reflects. "This foundational mindset, the push to connect History with global issues, culture, and innovation, helped me approach the Assembly as a delegate and as a humanities student, understanding how policy, art, and identity converge to shape the world's future."
