Sharing cases that we work on together with our vision scientists...
I enjoy geeking out on squiggly lines with them as they make it fun!
Attended a ROP education day in Northampton today hosted by CK Patel and Katy Powis
It was a specialised meeting on ROP related topics with some practitioners around the country.
I particularly liked how fast the Northampton ROP team have developed their nurse-led screening team from scratch - essentially moving from a standing start after their ophthalmologist retired a few years ago to now a full blown Optos powered ROP round.
Some good science and cases shared, and we also got to hear from a family who went through screening and treatment which was quite unique.
The best part was chatting to colleagues and hearing about the strengths and weaknesses of their own ROP service - highlighting similar issues that we all face in this resource-tight climate.
Team meeting this morning. This is a productive time where we reflect and plan to build improvements in patient care and experience, as well as developing our clinical practice.
Proud to see this milestone @AHOphthalmology@AlderHey led by Judith Gray!
Finalising the pathway of failed school screeners --> community optometrists
* earlier management of refractive errors
* more refined triaging
* freeing up hospital resources
* better exp for families

Here's us with Jill our rheumatology nurse who joins us during these clinics.
Having multiple specialties seeing patients at the same time leads to quicker decision-making. Do you agree?

Last week, a colleague Mr.Shergill from Kettering came over to visit @AHOphthalmology for 2 days. I was really pleased to be able to show him a surgical forceps that I was working on!
Julie has been a great teacher to us all over the years, and we can’t even begin to count how many patients she must have cared for in that time. What a difference she has made! Good luck Julie, and thanks for everything ❤️. Enjoy your last few weeks with us as an orthoptist!
Julie is retiring!
34 years as an orthoptist in @AHOphthalmology and over 40 years working for the NHS 🤯
As our orthoptic teaching lead for a long time, we suspect that she must have tutored 100s and 100s of orthoptic students over all these years ❤️
Happy retirement Julie!
