We have sent a communication to the Hon’ble Prime Minister @PMOIndia , requesting immediate implementation of Five-Day Work Week in the Banking Industry as a measure of national austerity, energy conservation and public efficiency.
Workplace culture matters
"Employees are human beings with aspirations, emotions and families. Alongside transparent HR policies, banks must foster dignity, psychological safety and supportive leadership. Sustainable performance comes when employees feel valued, heard and inspired to give their best."

DFS DIRECTIVE ON PLI TO OFFICERS IN SCALE IV AND ABOVE UNDERMINES CONCILIATION PROCESS, IMPACTS INSTITUTIONAL EQUITY, AND THREATENS INDUSTRIAL HARMONY
UFBU demands that implementation be kept in abeyance pending resolution through established consultative mechanisms
Press Release:
"Trade unions do not oppose work, production, or industry. They intervene when wages are unpaid, safety norms are violated, workers are dismissed arbitrarily, or fatal accidents are concealed or normalised. Demanding compliance with the law cannot be equated with stopping industrial growth. On the contrary, lawlessness and unsafe workplaces ultimately erode productivity, public confidence, and social stability."
Bank employees are the backbone of India’s financial system, powering inclusion, safeguarding stability, and enabling growth.
Yet, they’re still denied a humane work–life balance.
A 5-day work week in the banking industry isn’t a “perk”, it’s a long-overdue necessity. The commitment has been made. Now it must be honoured.
Act now. Implement a 5-day week for bankers too, without delay.

Watch this video highlighting the invaluable contribution of bank employees, who continue to await their long-overdue entitlement to a healthy work–life balance through the introduction of a five-day work week.

Policy makers talk about productivity while forcing burnout on bank employees. Hypocrisy won’t run a modern economy. Act with responsibility. Approve the 5-day banking week.

A better banking experience starts with a sustainable workweek. With acute staff shortages and mounting stress, 5-day banking is about public service and employee well-being, not a privilege.
UFBU has been pressing since 2015; IBA has already recommended it to the Government (MoU 07-12-2023), and the 12th Bipartite/9th Joint Note (08-03-2024) records the Saturday holiday clause, pending approvals/clearances.
Honour what’s on record. Approve all Saturdays off.

A rested workforce serves the public better. With staff shortages and rising stress, 5-day banking is a service-quality issue, not a “perk.” UFBU has pursued this since 2015; IBA has recommended it to the Government (MoU 07-12-2023), and it’s included in the 12th Bipartite/9th Joint Note (08-03-2024), pending clearances.
Let’s finish what’s already agreed.
