OGTV retiree, security guard found dead in Abeokuta
NIYI MARAIYESA
The Ogun State Police Command has commenced a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths of retired Ogun State Television, OGTV, broadcaster, Ms. Kitan Oyesiku, popularly known as "Aunty Kitan," and her security guard at her residence in the Kobape area of Abeokuta.
The incident, which has thrown the media community and residents of Ogun State into mourning, was reported to the Owode Egba Police Division on Sunday after a resident of Iyana Agodo Village raised an alarm over suspicious activities at the deceased's residence.
Police detectives who responded to the distress report discovered signs of forced entry and disturbance within the premises. During a search of the property, the corpse of the security guard was found inside the security post, while the body of Ms. Oyesiku was later discovered in her apartment. Her vehicle was also reported missing from the residence.
The tragic development initially generated widespread speculation, with reports alleging that unidentified gunmen had attacked and killed the former broadcaster.
However, the Ogun State Police Command has clarified that there is currently no evidence to support claims that the victims were shot, noting that no gunshot wounds were found on Ms. Oyesiku's body.
Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident, directing detectives and intelligence units to intensify efforts aimed at uncovering the circumstances surrounding the deaths and bringing those responsible to justice.
The Command says surveillance and intelligence-led operations have been expanded across relevant locations as part of ongoing efforts to track down the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, the police have appealed to members of the public and the media to refrain from circulating unverified reports or speculative accounts of the incident, stressing the need to allow investigators carry out their duties without hindrance.
The Ogun State Police Command also extended its condolences to the family of the deceased, the Ogun State Television family, and the wider media community, assuring that no effort will be spared in ensuring that justice is served.
*U.S-Iran Talks End First Round With "Encouraging Progress"*
Sadiyat Dosunmu
First-round talks between the U.S and Iran have concluded with "encouraging progress," according to mediators, Qatar and Pakistan.
The negotiations, held in Switzerland, aim to reach a final deal within 60 days to end the wider conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
In a joint statement early Monday, Qatar and Pakistan said a "High Level Committee" had agreed to "a roadmap towards reaching a final deal within 60 days."
The memorandum of understanding signed last week commits both sides to ending fighting on "all fronts", including Lebanon, and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran’s foreign minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi said there had been "major progress" towards ending the conflict in Lebanon.
He added that under the MoU, oil and petrochemical exports are waived, the blockade is lifted, some frozen assets are released, and a major reconstruction and development plan for Iran has been launched.
The mediators said a "communication line" has been formed to avoid incidents and miscommunication, with the aim of ensuring safe passage for commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
Both sides also agreed to create a "de-confliction cell" between the U.S, Iran and Lebanon, facilitated by the mediating countries, to end military operations in Lebanon.
Araghchi called this the "first real test".
Iranian lead negotiators have left Switzerland, where talks began Sunday. Technical discussions between the parties are set to continue.
Iranian media reported that fighting between Hezbollah and Israeli forces in southern Lebanon has surged since the MoU was signed, alongside Israeli air strikes that Lebanon’s health ministry says killed dozens, including women and children.
A new Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire was declared Friday. On Saturday, Iran announced it had shut the Strait of Hormuz, though tracking data shows vessels have continued to pass through.
Fighting diminished Sunday, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the Israeli military would remain in southern Lebanon as long as necessary to protect northern Israel.
Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem rejected any Israeli military presence and said Hezbollah would defend itself.
As talks began in Lucerne, President Trump posted that Iran "must immediately stop their highly paid PROXIES in Lebanon from causing trouble" and threatened to "hit Iran very hard again" if they did not.
Iran’s lead negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf responded: "Don't they think that if their threats had any effect, they wouldn't be in this desperate situation today?...
No matter how much they talk, it is we who take action."
Speaking before the talks at Bürgenstock, U.S lead negotiator Vice-President JD Vance said President Trump had asked negotiators to "turn over a new leaf".
He added that if Iran’s leadership was willing to give up being a "driver of regional instability" and its "nuclear weapons ambitions for the longer term", the U.S "is willing to fundamentally transform our relationship with that country".

Breaking News: Abia Police arrest Man seen in viral video brutally assaulting a woman in Abia
Ada Ononye
A 37-year-old man, Agwu Ukpo, seen in a disturbing viral video brutally assaulting a woman identified as Amarachi Chinyere, has been arrested by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Nigeria Police Force, Abia State Command, in an incident that has sparked outrage and renewed concerns over domestic violence in Abia State.
Police authorities confirmed that the suspect, Agwu Ukpo, is a native of Akanu community in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State and resides in Okpuafor, Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.
According to preliminary investigations, the assault occurred on April 4, 2026, at a residence in Aba where the suspect and victim were staying.
The incident reportedly began over what police described as a minor domestic dispute. The victim, Amarachi Chinyere, was said to have been washing plates after a meal when she also washed a pot containing leftover soup that had been kept for about three days. The suspect allegedly became enraged after discovering that the remaining soup had been discarded.
While the victim reportedly attempted to explain her actions, the suspect allegedly descended on her in a violent attack captured in the now-viral video.
The video was posted by Obinna Amaogu, a native of Akanu in Ohafia LGA and landlord of the apartment where the incident occurred.
Investigators say Amaogu had been accommodating both the suspect and the victim because all parties are from the same village in Ohafia LGA.
Following the assault, the victim relocated to Lagos and had remained unreachable for some time.
However, police say contact has now been established with Amarachi through a mobile number recently provided by someone from her village.
Acting on actionable intelligence, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Abia State Police Command tracked and apprehended the suspect.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
Police say the suspect is expected to face prosecution on charges bordering on assault and attempted murder upon conclusion of investigations.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the Command strongly condemned the act.
The Command described the assault as barbaric, inhumane, and a grave act of domestic violence that has no place in any civilised society.
The police further reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice for victims of abuse and warned that perpetrators of violent crimes will be made to face the full weight of the law.
The incident has continued to generate widespread reactions across social media, with many Nigerians demanding swift justice and stronger protections for victims of domestic violence.
The case has once again brought renewed attention to the growing concern over gender-based violence and domestic abuse in Nigeria, with advocates calling for increased public awareness, early intervention, and stricter accountability for offenders.
