This morning, I had a wonderful meeting with Mr. Amin Mawji, the AKDN Diplomatic Representative in Uganda, to discuss their ongoing and future development initiatives.

I strongly commend the Aga Khan Development Network for their extraordinary commitment to Uganda’s progress, particularly in the key sectors of education, health, and energy.

What stands out most about the Aga Khan institutions is their deep-rooted focus on long-term national growth rather than short-term profit.

Their decades of service speak for themselves; from resolving our country's major energy crisis through the Bujagali power project to establishing Air Uganda when we needed a national carrier.

Today, that remarkable legacy continues with major multi-million dollar investments, including modern pharmaceutical manufacturing plants currently under construction in the Namanve Industrial Park and the state-of-the-art Aga Khan University Hospital in Nakawa, set to fully open next year.

We truly cherish this enduring, impactful partnership and look forward to seeing these critical projects transform the lives of our people and drive sustainable socioeconomic transformation across our nation.

Artificial intelligence is growing fast in Tanzanian higher education. Are our policies keeping up?

That question was raised at the opening of the third Five University Consortium (5UC) Conference in Arusha. Deputy Minister for Education, Science and Technology Honourable Wanu Hafidh Ameir said the conversation needed to cover more than what technology can do. It also needed to cover how institutions, policies and governance frameworks should respond.

The three-day conference is hosted by NM-AIST. It brings together Sokoine University of Agriculture, NM-AIST, Aga Khan University, the University of Dar es Salaam and Canada's Simon Fraser University, alongside scholars from across Africa and Europe. The focus is on turning research into policy and practice as Tanzania implements its Development Vision 2050.

"…our responsibility is to ensure that knowledge also translates into better policies, technologies and practices that improve lives and protect the environment." said Professor Tania Bubela, Provost and Vice President Academic, Aga Khan University

Our newest medicine and nursing students at Aga Khan University's Kenya campus donned their white coats – and with them, a promise: to lead with compassion, hold fast to ethics, and pursue excellence in everything they do.

The White Coat Ceremony is more than a welcome. It marks the moment these future doctors and nurses take on something profound: the trust of every patient who will one day be in their care.

We were proud to be joined by Dr Ibrahim Matende, President of the Kenya Medical Association and Sister Esther Mwangi, CEO of St. Francis Community Hospital as Chief Guests. Professor Lukoye Atwoli, Dean of the AKU Medical College, East Africa and Professor Eunice Ndirangu, Dean of the Aga Khan University School of Nursing and Midwifery, together with AKU President Dr Sulaiman Shahabuddin and Provost Professor Tania Bubela shared words of wisdom and encouragement.

To the Class embarking on this journey: the training ahead is rigorous, and the community around you is cheering you on. We can't wait to see the difference you'll make.
