The Department of Public Safety will be joining community members, other emergency responders, and agency partners today, shortly after 5pm, to honor Greg King, a wildland firefighter and helicopter pilot who tragically lost his life alongside fellow pilot Ryan Cutter while flying a Super Puma for Precision Helicopters on the Dome Fire in California on Sunday, September 20th. Procession route departs near Raspberry Rd, north on Minnesota Dr, east on 6th Ave, Glenn Hwy toward Palmer, north on Palmer-Fishhook Rd, ends prior to North Snowgoose Rd.
Last week, the Fairbanks Areawide Narcotics Team coordinated a multi-agency task force to apprehend multiple suspects and search multiple residences for drugs, guns, and proceeds from drug trafficking. SWAT members from Fairbanks and Matsu worked with local, state and federal agencies to execute search warrants at seven residences in the Fairbanks area. Over 50 people were contacted and ten arrests were made. Law enforcement seized more than one pound of methamphetamine, over $18,000, and three guns. Governor Dunleavy has declared the week of September 20 as Forensic Science Week in Alaska. Across the state and at the Alaska Scientific Crime Detection Lab in Anchorage, over 50 scientists and professionals help to create a safer Alaska by collecting and processing evidence, analyzing and interpreting data, writing reports, and testifying in court.
Over the last year, the Crime Lab worked on over 3,100 lab requests and processed over 9,200 DNA samples. They entered nearly 300 forensic samples into databases, generating about 190 investigative leads. Analysts from the Crime Lab testified over 100 times across the state. The staff works tirelessly to provide scientific support to the criminal justice system and keep Alaska safe.

In memoriam: On this day in 1998, Sergeant David Churchill died of a heart attack while checking on a hunting camp on the Alaska Peninsula. He was 51 years old and had been with the Division of Fish and Wildlife Protection (now the Alaska Wildlife Troopers) for 12 years.

We also remember the families and loved ones whose lives were forever changed by the attacks that day.

Alaska State Troopers in Nome recently partnered with the Nome Police Department for the National Night Out. They were able to meet many of the community members and safety bear was a big hit! Community policing in rural Alaska helps us build trust with the areas we serve and let the communities know that we are there for them.
Today is National Aviation Day. Troopers rely on fixed wing and rotary wing aviation daily to ensure public safety across the nation's largest state. We operate the largest state law enforcement aircraft fleet in the country and employ both commissioned and noncommissioned pilots.

We were hanging out with the cool kids recently. Alaska State and Wildlife Troopers in Ketchikan helped provide security for the airforce while two of their F-22 Raptors made a brief refueling stop in town.
Your Alaska State Troopers teamed up with the Anchorage Police Department to help patrol Salmonfest. The combined two-day effort resulted in the arrest of eight people for drug distribution felonies. Drugs seized included methamphetamine, ecstasy, prescription pills, and a substantial amount of psychedelic mushrooms.
