Gun violence is killing kids in this country.
The #MetGala is fashion’s biggest night, and the world is watching what people wear. This dress is a response to a world where safety is not guaranteed and protection should not be a luxury.
FASHION IS ADVOCACY.
The 13 people murdered at Fort Hood deserved to live, and their families deserve justice. But justice should never be confused with spectacle.
Livestreaming an execution risks sensationalizing violence rather than honoring those whose lives were taken.
Death should not be a public broadcast.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
It’s a time to reflect, raise awareness, and push for real solutions that protect survivors, because we can’t talk about ending gun violence in America without talking about violence against women.
When an abusive intimate partner has access to a gun, a woman is 5x more likely to be killed. Guns don’t just escalate domestic violence, they make it lethal. A domestic assault involving a firearm is 12x more likely to end in death than one involving other weapons or physical force.
This is a national crisis, and it hits women of color hardest. Black women are killed in firearm intimate partner homicides at 3.5x the rate of white women. For American Indian and Alaska Native women, it’s twice the rate.
Keeping firearms out of the hands of convicted domestic abusers and people under active restraining orders reduces intimate partner homicides. But those protections are under attack. For years, opposition has stalled and targeted key provisions of the Violence Against Women Act: measures to close the “boyfriend loophole,” restrict access for convicted stalkers, and keep guns away from abusers subject to temporary protective orders.
We refuse to stay silent while politicians and their gun lobby allies roll back lifesaving protections for women and survivors. Protecting women means disarming abusers. Period.
In an endless cycle of bad news, there's always some good news! This time it's California, where @CAgovernor just signed 10 new gun safety bills into law.
The reforms go after the whole lifecycle of this crisis: keeping firearms away from people who pose a risk, closing the gaps that let unserialized and illegally modified weapons through, and funding the community programs that interrupt violence before it starts.
One bill goes at 3D printed guns from the printer side, screening the design file and refusing the job. It's a framework more than a mandate right now, since the requirement is conditional on an industry standard that doesn't exist yet, but it's the right place to intervene.
California already has the lowest gun death rate in its recorded history. That's what happens when a state treats gun violence like the solvable problem it is, year after year.
In the 4.5 hours it takes an average runner to finish a marathon, 62 Americans will be shot. That number shouldn't exist. So in a month, 11 of us are running the New York City Marathon as Team March For Our Lives.
Some of us are running for family lost to gun violence. Some of us survived shootings at our schools, or watched our communities absorb one. Some of us work in this movement, and have spent years learning exactly what this fight costs and what it takes.
March For Our Lives was born from tragedy and built on hope. When you support our team, you're helping fuel our campaigns, train the next generation of organizers, and shift the culture that keeps communities unsafe. Every mile we run is for the people we've lost and the future we're building. We're running to bring that 62 down 💙🧡

Nine years ago today, 60 people were killed at the Route 91 Harvest festival in Las Vegas, and hundreds more were wounded by gunfire. What should have been a night of music under the open sky became the deadliest mass shooting in American history.
Sixty families have spent nine years without the people who should still be here, and survivors have spent those same years rebuilding what was torn apart in 10 minutes.
In those 10 minutes, the shooter fired more than 1,000 rounds into the crowd. Investigators later found 24 firearms in his hotel suite, more than a dozen of them AR-15-style rifles fitted with bump stocks that let them fire nine rounds per second.
Every one of those guns was purchased legally.
In the aftermath of the shooting, bump stocks were banned only by federal regulation, never by law. So when the Supreme Court struck that rule down in 2024, there was no federal law to fall back on. Congress still hasn't acted, and today bump stocks are legal again across much of the country.
The 60 people killed in Las Vegas deserved more than a rule that could be undone, and so does every community touched by gun violence. Sorrow alone cannot be our response, because nine years is already too long to wait for leaders to act.
America doesn't have more crime than other wealthy nations. It has more killing.
A new book by @Gladwell is about why. He explores how the world's wealthiest country came to suffer from a problem typically only seen in the world's poorest countries.
He approaches it through a series of stories. What can we learn from the miracle of a young gunshot victim in Washington, D.C.? How have the legal troubles of a seventeenth-century English knight influenced American attempts at gun control? Why would a European police chief be baffled by the graduation ceremony at any American police academy?
Gladwell travels from a shooting range in North Carolina, to the South Side of Chicago, to an old plantation house in Alabama, painting a picture of a country that does not understand its most pressing social problem, and as a result, does not understand how to fix it.

This weekend in Macon, Georgia, twelve teenagers were shot at a birthday party in Carolyn Crayton Park. Five of them are just 17. Two are in critical condition.
What should have been a night celebrating a friend became a scene of gunfire and fear. Students from two local high schools are now carrying memories no young person should ever have to carry.
Gun violence has become an everyday feature of growing up in America, from classrooms to parks to birthday parties, because our so-called leaders refuse to act. This is not inevitable. It's the result of political choices, and we will not accept it as normal.
We just kicked off our March Forward Fellowship in Washington, DC!
March Forward is our four-month leadership and storytelling fellowship for young people directly and closely impacted by gun violence. Our first cohort is eight fellows, who will get storytelling and public speaking training, individual leadership coaching, mentorship, and a place to publish through our channels. Each fellow will also design a community project in their home state, because the point isn't just telling the story. It's what the story makes possible.
We brought everyone together, and over two days they got to know each other beyond their advocacy. They practiced telling their stories on their own terms, met their coaches, and brainstormed what they want to build over the next few months.
We walked out feeling inspired. Eight young people spent the weekend figuring out how to turn their lived experience into something that moves other people, and it was powerful to watch.
